Bulgaria - Ideas On Where To Go

By Mark Walters

Bordering such countries as Greece, Turkey and Romania, it is not easy for Bulgaria to be considered much of a player in the tourism industry, but in fact it is a country that contains some real gems in the forms of fantastically vibrant cities, amazing historical buildings and monuments and some of the most beautiful landscape in the Balkan states. Although Bulgaria has had a very troubled past, over recent years it has grown economically and evolved into a great get away destination offering cheap hotel rates and some of the best weather in Europe.

The capital of Bulgaria is Sofia, a city of approximately 1.2 million people. Sofia is an amazing city with some of the best nightlife in the Balkans coupled with areas of impressive historical architecture. Sofia was once ruled by Alexander the Great after he defeated the Thracian rulers around 334 BC, though a few hundred years later it was conquered by the Romans and subsequently became a municipium meaning a center of an administrative region. Today Sofia is well known for its huge range of cultural buildings including numerous museums, and arts orientated constructions.

Varma is another of Bulgaria's coolest cities, situated on the eastern edge of the country bordered by the Black Sea. The city is colloquially known as the marine capital of Bulgaria as it offers a variety of water based activities and some beautiful sandy beaches. Varna is a major seaside resort that has become massively popular with particularly European tourists over recent years and has some great attractions and amenities that are sure to please everybody who visits.

Just behind Varna in terms of population is Burgas, (occasionally referred to as Bourgas). Situated amongst the Burgas Lakes, this extremely popular seaside resort has something for everyone, with fascinating historical architecture and modern trendy bars and clubs. Although the tourism industry in the city is not as developed as other destinations, Borgas still has a lot to offer in terms of good quality restaurants, museums, art galleries and some scintillating nightlife.

Golden Sands is a popular seaside destination in Bulgaria, located on the Bulgaria Black Sea Coast, just 17 kilometers from Varna. Golden Sands is extremely popular with tourists from all over Europe due to the combination of reasonable prices, great weather, clean sandy beaches and beautiful landscape. Along with attractions such as the Golden Sands Nature Park, there are also hot springs, casinos, shopping centers, spa centers, restaurants and a thriving nightlife.
