5 Must Visit Cities In Turkey

We think that Turkey is one of the most intriguing places in the world and so we've put together this guide to some of Turkey's coolest cities. Ankara is the capital city of Turkey as well as the second largest city. There is a lot to explore there, from the Roman Theater and baths to the Citadel. You can also visit a lot of archeological sites and find out about its centuries of history. Ankara is also important for industry and trade and is the home of the Turkish government.

We also love Istanbul and you can really see how east meets west in this city. You can visit the beautiful Grand Bazaar and many other lovely sites such as lots of famous mosques and churches. These are really popular with tourists as they offer an insight into the city's history and culture. Istanbul has also been popular for many centuries and has been the capital of many empires, most notably the Byzantine, Ottoman and Roman. This is a city that definitely deserves a visit.

Another city with lots of exciting history and heritage to explore is Ephesus. This is an ancient city currently under restoration. It also has exciting religious significance as Christians believe the Virgin Mary lived there at the end of her life. It also used to be home to the Temple of Artemis, prior to its destruction. Ephesus is a great place to visit as it has lots of ruins so you can see how the city used to work in past centuries and learn more about how Turkey's past.

Another city that is definitely worthy of exploration is Bodrum. This used to be home to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was, however, destroyed by a series of strong and violent earthquakes. The city is based around the Castle of Saint Peter. This was erected by the Knights of Saint John and the city is a good place to use as a base when you go exploring the surrounding countryside and villages on excursions.

One last cool Turkish city you need to visit is located in the region of Cappadocia. It's called Urgrup and is a great place to stay. It has lots of amenities and is found in the region where you will see lots of Turkey's famous and gorgeous rock chimney dwellings. There is so much history and culture to take in that in order to make the most of it you should hire a guide to take you round so you can be sure of seeing everything you want to.
