Things To Avoid When You Have An Overactive Bladder

By Dr Kevin Johnston

Do you have problems with an overactive bladder? Do you have to regularly stop what you're doing so that you can head to the bathroom? Have you experimenting to do other things to prevent these excursions to the bathroom? Most individuals imagine that it is the intake of fluid that impacts the amount of relief our bladders need during the day. This is normally why a lot of people almost dehydrate themselves in an effort to keep from having to visit the bathroom too often.

Would you believe that it can also be the solid foods that you eat that can give rise to your "pee breaks" during the day? The real truth of the matter is that those "pee breaks" are generally simply a way to rid your body of waste. That waste product is accumulated from both solid and also liquid sources. The waste you get rid of can be from items that are equally liquid and solid--it doesn't matter what type it is in when you eat or drink it.

Vitamin C is fantastic for fighting off an infection but it is also good for annoying your bladder. This is largely due to the fact that many citrus fruits include large levels of acid and thats why you need to avoid them both in solid and juice forms. The main sources of this acid tend to be pineapples (which isn't technically a citrus fruit but is every bit as irritating to your system), lemons, tangerines, grapefruits and oranges. You need to choose bananas, apples, pears and berries to get ample Vitamin C each day.

Try to keep calm about this: consuming an excess of chocolate can be an exascerbater of your bladder. Caffeine is in chocolate. Your bladder doesn't enjoy it a lot whenever you ingest caffeine and it will send you to the toilet quite a lot when you take in lots of it. The same is true for caffeinated liquids as well. If you have been making a lot of trips to the lavatory, lay off of the caffeine both in solid and liquid form. Instead, figure out how to like dark chocolate and decaf coffee (or soda).

Foods which are specifically spicy can annoy your bladder quite a lot. This will be painful for many who like spicy foods but it is important, if you dont want to spend your evenings running to the bathroom, to avoid foods like super spicy nachos, wasabi sauce, etc. If it would make your eyes and nose run you can bet it is going to make other parts of your body run as well. The fix is simple; pick out exactly the same foods but just not as spicy so that you still get the taste without all of the bodily irritation.

We normally think that if it's liquid when it comes out it will need to have been liquid when it went in. This isn't 100% correct. What our bodies excrete is the excess pieces of what we have eaten and drunk that our bodies are unable to use or store so it gets rid of them in whatever way is the easiest and most convenient.
