Passport Questions About Visiting Canada Are Answered Here In This Article

By Ben Pate

Most Americans who wish to travel to Canada often ask the question of whether or not they need a passport to visit Canada. Yes, you do need a U S passport to travel there. Let us tell you more about it by reading this article in full.

First, an introduction. Canada is a part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative or WHTI. The WHTI is a group of countries where Americans can use certain approved documents to enter. Areas covered by the WHTI include the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda, and of course, Canada. The documents you can use to travel to WHTI include your passport book, passport card, or a NEXUS card.

Using a US passport card is recommended for Americans who plan to travel to Canada by land. When you reach the US-Canada border, simply present your US passport card to be allowed to pass. Applying for this type of card is easy, as this goes through the same process as applying for a US passport book. It is also convenient to use as the card is wallet sized, which is small compared to the passport book which is bulky. It is also significantly cheaper than a passport book, so if you're planning only of traveling to WHTI countries over land or sea, then the passport card would suffice.

Meanwhile, you will need a USA Passport book if you're going to travel to WHTI and non-WHTI areas by air. If you're not familiar with the passport book, it's the booklet that's regularly used by Americans to travel even before the passport card was issued in 2008. So when traveling by air, make sure to use your passport book.

However, if you want to combine the benefits of both the passport card and the passport book, then you can always apply for both types of passports. So for example, you just want to visit WHTI areas, you'll just need to bring the passport card in your wallet. However, if you're traveling to international destinations that are not part of the WHTI, you will then need to have your passport book ready. Applying for these passports at the same time is recommended, as there is a corresponding discount when you do.

For travels that will take you to WHTI areas and beyond, you can then bring your passport book. But aside from just flexibility, the great thing about applying for both cards is that you get a discount when you apply for both the card and the book at the same time. All in all, the choice is yours, depending on the type of travel you're going to make.

Do you travel to Canada regularly? Then you might want to apply for a NEXUS card as well. This card is designed for those who travel to Canada often and want a hassle-free travel across the border. Having a NEXUS card allows you to use the lane made exclusively for NEXUS cardholders, ensuring there are no delays when you need to go to Canada by land as soon as possible.

Visiting The Cornish Seaside In Penzance

By Frederick Hoymer

Penzance is a town right on the coast of Cornwall. It is one of the most westernmost towns in the country. The actual translation for the name Penzance means Holy Head so it is thought that the name of the city relates to the chapel that was placed at the headlands. Another reference to a holy head is found in the town symbol which depicts the head of John the Baptist.

The Lescudjack castle is one of the oldest buildings and sites in the whole town as it comes from the Iron Age. The town was not an overly popular place to live as it was raided by many Barbary Corsairs. There were particular issues with Spanish fleets raiding the town after the Spanish Armada. It was not until the raiding stopped that the town began to grow in size.

Penzance began to grow when it was able to hold a market and charge harbor dues. The town built a market house and pier in the early 1500s and the city was greatly improved in the 1700s. Penzance has since become very important to the region as the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall was started here of which the Prince regent was a patron.

Some of the early important industries included fishing, agriculture and mining. There were many mining schools in the area including the Penzance Mining and Science School. The main mining product was tin and there was a large smelting house in town. The success of the mining industry led to an increase in commercial banking.

The history of Penzance is extensive and the historical section is located at the center of town which is considered a conservation area. You can view many Georgian and regency homes throughout town. Another historic are is the harbor and seafront. You can visit the Jubilee Bathing Pool at the promenade which is one of the oldest of its kind designed in the Art deco style. There was a period of time that Penzance was a popular seaside resort.

In June you can attend the Golowan Festival which is a celebration for midsummer. There are many bonfires and fireworks each year. Penzance also has some extensive celebrating on May Day. The Cornish version of Halloween known as Allantide is also very popular. Instead of Halloween the day is linked to St Allen.

Penzance is also famous due to Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance as this town is the home of the pirates. The town has several theaters which provide music, movies, dance and cabaret.

Trains In Seattle Bring Out The Inner Child

By Owen Jones

Boys and girls of all ages like trains and train sets. They have played a very important role in the history of this country and Seattle, Washington and the Northwest in specific. In fact, the roles of trains in this part of the country have in the past been so vital that there are a few museums dedicated to them. Trains were essential lifelines for the people here for many years. While their importance seems to be dwindling in today's society, their significance throughout the history of our country remains.

If you really are a train enthusiast, then it should not be hard to talk you into stopping by Seattle's Train Center before and after touring the museums devoted to trains and their importance in history. The Train Center offers a wide selection of model train parts and pieces that would make excellent additions to your train set or a great beginning for a train set for you or your kids.

After you've whetted your appetite for trains and gotten your child all excited about them, it is time to take a walk back in time to the Northwest Railway Museum. There you can learn about railway history or even decide to take a ride on one of the trains that departs on several trips throughout the day. Most of the excursions are 65-75 minutes long and are a remarkable treat for young and old alike. Perhaps the greatest thing about this museum is that its main purpose is to educate the public about the important function that railroads had in the development of this part of the country.

If you're really interested in sharing your affection for trains with the ones you love, you may consider taking a spin on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. This is a great way to not only get the experience of travelling the rails but to take in some of the beautiful Washington scenery and have a gourmet meal in the process. During the months of November through to April up to two children may ride free with a paying adult.

There are certain restrictions on the type of seating, but it is a great way to get the event at a vastly reduced price. There are also special events such as Murder Mystery Trains and Magic and Illusion shows in addition to certain holiday events as well. Be sure to check out what is going on while you are visiting Seattle and see if this is something that might interest you and your family.

If you are up for a not so short drive to Pasco (about three and a half hours from Seattle), you might find the Washington State Railroads Historical Society Museum well worth the journey. Be sure to remember that the museum is only open on Saturday and that the hours are restricted so this is a journey you need to plan in advance. The greatest thing about this museum to me is the fact that there are lovely little stories, like the blackboard that recorded the first snowfall at the depot each year and others such as this.

It is the short stories that do not necessarily make history that do make lasting impressions and I am glad to see this particular story is being shared. Just remember, when visiting any of these depots, museums, and train tours that you definitely must bring your inner child with you in order to enjoy them as you should.

Check Out The Top Beaches Of Newquay In Cornwall

By Frederick Hoymer

Yhe UK is certainly not well known for its array of beautiful beaches. Many of them are rocky and covered in pebbles and others are rough and the water cold. However, for a more sandy option and with some world class surf, look to the beaches of Newquay to suit your needs. Here are five of the top ones to consider.

The first one to look at is Watergate Bay beach. This beach is privately owned but that's not to say it can't be used. It is used for the Extreme Sports Academy and therefore any fanatics on these types of activity will be very much at home. Wind-surfing, buggy-surfing, kite-surfing and regular surfing are the top activities on offer her. When the tide goes out this beach stretches over a mile in length so there is plenty of space to have fun.

The second beach is Whipsiderry beach. This is a much smaller beach accessible only from above on the cliff and down some tricky steps. Be careful of what time to go otherwise these steps might be a little slippery. Its a lovely beach but lacks in facilities an it not really ideal for families, especially those with small children. For those who love to do a bit of cave spotting and exploring, then this is a good bet as many are exposed when the tide goes out.

Porth beach: This is one of the more accessible of the beaches down in Newquay and has a lot of good facilities such as parking, shops and little bars an food outlets. At low tide there are some great walks that you can take on and there is also a little crazy golf and putting green in a field just above the beach. For a fun family day at the beach, this is one of your safest bets.

Another privately owned beach is Lusty Glaze beach. This beach has a couple of interesting features in its focus on lifesaving courses and the very high high-wire that adrenaline junkies can whip across the beach on. Again, not one for families, but for surfers and young people looking for some fun this is a good bet.

Fistral beach: For any surfers, Fistral is the beast choice. This is the best beach for surfing in the UK and is world famous with its surf centre and numerous surf shopping outlets. All of the surfing competitions within Newquay take place here so the car parks may be closed off on these occasions to pick your day if you are just looking to lounge on the beach.

These are only some of many other beaches in the area.

The Extensive History Of Coventry

By Frederick Hoymer

Coventry is a very large town in England and is one of the largest cities in the Midlands. This city is the farthest from any of the coasts in the country and is not considered a core cities group because it is too close to Birmingham. This town was the first to twin with another city. Coventry was twinned with what is now known as Volgograd.

The history of Coventry far predates the history of any other nearby city. It is though that the geology of the area was very favorable for settlement as the bowl shape of the city center and the abundant water and food nearby was very favorable. The surrounding soil is very fertile and good for agriculture and there were plenty of forest and woods for hunting.

Coventry contains a Benedictine monastery, roman settlement and Saxon nunnery throughout time. The abbey eventually held a market outside its gates which caused m ore people to settle in the area. During the Middle Ages the cloth trade was very prominent and this was a very important spot for cloth in England. In the 18th and 19th centuries Coventry was one of three centers for watch making and clock manufacturing. This industry flourished until the Swiss began producing watches.

Coventry also found success in bicycle manufacturing which eventually led to car manufacturing. At one point in time Coventry had more than 100 different car producers in Coventry. However the last car to be produced in Coventry was in 2006 and since then only offices and headquarters for the main automobile producers are located in Coventry.

One of the best known landmarks and popular tourist spots is St. Michael's cathedral. This cathedral was built in the 14th century but most of it was destroyed by bombs during World War II. The only remaining parts of the cathedral are the outer wall and spire. Right next to these old ruins is the new Coventry Cathedral designed by Basil Spence.

An additional popular tourist stop is the Coventry Transport Museum. This museum has the largest collection of road vehicle in the world and all the cars were made in England. Many of the cars in the museum have held world speed records. You can also visit the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum which is located in a reconstructed Roman fort.

Coventry is referred to in many famous works of drama and literature. George Eliot modeled her novel Middlemarch off of Coventry. The Coventry carol is named after the city and this carol was performed in on to the Coventry Cycle Mystery Plays. Coventry also has many venues for the arts such as the Warwick Arts centre and the Belgrade Theatre.

The Advantages Of The Razor Scooter

By Owen Jones

The Razor scooter is a fantastic idea for everybody wanting to stay healthy. These days loads of individuals are office-bound and we all appear to have a reduced amount of time for simply going out for a walk, which is the age-old therapy for putting on a few pounds. The Razor scooter can help you here.

How frequently have you said to yourself, 'I haven't got time to walk' or 'I can't be bothered to walk' and then have jumped in the automobile instead? But what if you had a Razor scooter handy? You could simply scooter down to the store or the park. You could take the dog for more walks and at a snappier speed too, something your dog will surely be thankful for.

The Razor A series or its bigger stablemates, the Razor Pro or Razor Cruiser, are not pricey, costing between $40 and $60, cheaper still at Amazon or eBay, yet they will quickly save you hundreds of dollars on fuel. After all, starting a vehicle is typically the most costly part of a short trip.

The Razor scooter is also very versatile. Weighing in at approximately six pounds, anybody could carry it without difficulty up or down a couple of stairs or lift it in or out of the trunk of a car. But not only that, it folds up too, so that the whole scooter is only a couple of feet long by six inches high by six inches wide. It will without difficulty fit in a passage sideboard or the boot of a car.

Your Razor scooter could be used in many ways to save you money and keep you trimmer. For instance, if you want a loaf of bread, you could hop on your scooter. You could take you dog to the park. You could scooter with your kids 'in a pack'. You could put a Razor scooter in the trunk of your car and scooter the last half a mile into college. And every time you get on that scooter, you are burning not petroleum but flab!

Think of it that way. You are saving energy and money and burning your surplus calories at the same time. You are also exercising your legs and raising your metabolism and heart rate too. That is everything the bank manager and the doctor suggested all rolled into one . And you will be in first-class company too.

Do you know who else's children ride Razor scooters? Well, there's Al Pacino's twins for a start. Now, Al Pacino is not short of a few dollars, I'm sure, so you can be assured that he's going to be looking for the finest for his kids, isn't he? And Lisa Kudrow and her son. And Liv and Cal, progeny of Julianne Moore and Bart Freundlich. You would be forgiven for saying, 'Aw well, they got theirs for free!' and that may be true, but at approximately $40 who cares?

The advantages in saved motor fuel and increased exercise make the Razor scooter a must-have necessity in my eyes. So, take another look at the Razor scooter and keep in mind that someone's birthday is coming up in a little while.

Accommodations Choices for a Breckenridge Vacation

By Monique Mertrandes

Wading though information on Breckenridge accommodation can be daunting because there are just so many you have to verify and consider. The internet, the most accessible and convenient source of information, more often than not, yields links that will bring you almost all the available hotels, vacation homes in addition to the popular ski-in, ski-out accommodations. After clicking on the links, which of the choices found is the excellent one for you? The initial step in arriving at the right choice is to have a good understanding of the option description and to compare them with your requirements.

Hotels: Almost certainly, the typical arrangement of a hotel room is familiar to a lot of people. Generally, a traditional hotel room has one or two beds, television, a night stand and sometimes a refrigerator plus a coffee maker. The advantage of being in a hotel is the proximity to various amenities that make your stay more memorable such as the restaurants, the gym or even a temporary business office for those who are doing business while on a vacation. However, you cant enjoy peace and quiet because you still bump with a lot of other vacationers. Unless you are in a suite, a hotel is generally not much more than a room where you can spend some relaxing activities with those you travel with. Staying in a hotel for a long period of time may make you feel like going back to an enclosed place each day. On the other hand, if you will stay for only a short time, a hotel could be the easiest and generally affordable accommodation to book.

Condos or Townhouses: In skiing communities the prevalent living quarters are the condos or townhouses. Like in hotels, one of the problems with staying in condos and townhouses are fellow guests you are likely to meet as soon as you step out of your unit. But you have to bear in mind that there are advantages too. Condos and townhouses resemble hotels in the fact that they both offer the use of pools or bath tubs. Besides, there is a fully working kitchen in case you want to regal your travel companions with your cooking expertise. It should be noted that in a townhouse or condominium there is a lot more space to accommodate more people and still avoid a congested situation.

Vacation Home: A vacation home that is separate from other units provides some privacy from the other guests. Choosing to rent the whole house will make you feel as if you are still at home without having to worry about any amortization to pay. Youre liable to have more spacious living quarters than in a condo but a pool or hot tub is not likely to be one of the amenities. Another important factor to consider before renting a vacation home is the location. Hotels and townhouses, you will notice, are built nearer the recreational facilities like ski resorts while vacation homes are usually located far away, in secluded areas. On the other hand, a drawback for one vacationer can be a benefit to another depending on ones particular circumstances and vacation plans.

Ski-in, Ski-out: Ski-in, ski-out accommodations are actually offered by some hotels, condos, and townhomes. Yes, the name accurately describes this accommodation- you begin skiing from and end skiing at your door. The convenience of being right where the action is, will no doubt, adversely affect your vacation expenses. Sure, ski-in, ski-out accommodations can be the priciest, but the convenience justifies the amount you paid.

In reality, your Breckenridge vacation plan can be as unique as you want it to be, given the wide range of options you can choose from. Before making any plan, develop first a vision of what you would like to happen during your stay there. Your best chance to come across a wide range of choices is through rental companies or the search engines online. Do your part in the preparation and you are almost sure to get hold of the perfect arrangement for your stay in Breckenridge.

Just to be safe, you should apply for a regular passport book. This provides you with the ultimate flexibility in travel, as well as for instances where a regular passport book may be required. It is more expensive than a passport card, but if you are the type who regularly travels to international destinations, then the passport book will be of more use to you.

It allows for a quicker response to you in times of emergency, and they will provide you with travel information and security during your stay there.

This letter should contain the child's travel information such as the airlines he/she will be taking, as well as the travel schedule among other things. Along with the parental consent should be the proof of relationship between the parent and the child.

Not simply is moola stretched everywhere you look but it's getting harder to attain reasonably priced vacations. You need to obtain value and affordability to be able to experience family holidays. Our vacation condo rentals are less than $90 a night.

Perhaps some time on a lavish beach somewhere you can unwind, otherwise possibly a jaunt to the mountains with amazing scenery and time to kick back and get away from the rest of the world. Well this all sounds impressive, until you check out the expense of booking a inn.

As soon as you realize that it is going to cost you $120 to $200 a night, or more, your dreams of a impressive getaway seem to crash. You will not have to give up on that getaway. In reality, with a vacation condo rental membership, you can take pleasure in a holiday rental and obtain that getaway you have been envisioning of for a lot less moola than you ever thought.

Several people take off on getaways and splurge an enormous amount of moola on inns, but you will in reality observe that a vacation condo rental is a much better way to go. In actuality, there are numerous outstanding advantages to selecting a vacation condo on your getaway instead of a inn or hotel. A bit skeptical? Well, here is a look at the central advantages to be enjoyed when you decide on a vacation condo rental.

Benefit From a Lower Expense for Your Fantasy Vacation

One of the main benefits of going with a vacation condo rental is that you'll enjoy a lower cost for your dream vacation. When you consider the cost of a nice hotel room, you can expect to pay an average of about $150 a night, with some costing more. However, with a condo rental, usually you'll pay less than $100 each night. This is a huge savings, but when you have a condo rental membership as well, many times you'll be able to book your condo rental for only about $40 or $50 each night, saving even more money. In tight economic times, you may think that a vacation is impossible, but with these great rates that are available when you choose a vacation condo rental, you'll be able to afford that vacation that you so desperately need.

Better Availability

Better availability with condo rentals is another added advantage you will enjoy when you select them over a single inn or hotel. Several times you will learn that the inn or hotel you desired to stay in does not have the dates obtainable when you desire to go on getaway. Well, why must you arrange a getaway around what is paramount for an inn? You ought to be planning around your job and your life, and when you select a getaway condo rental, you are able to do this because of the great availability you will find.

More Room for the Whole Family

When you consider the common size of a inn room, you can figure that life is going to be a bit cramped for the entire family. Dealing with you and your children all inside the same space for a week is not quite the impressive vacation that you were probably searching for. With vacation condo rental, you will uncover that there is plenty of room for every person in the family. Several of them have two and three bedrooms obtainable, allowing every person to have a bit added privacy so you can get pleasure from your vacation more thoroughly. So, this is categorically a massive benefit of choosing with a vacation rental instead of a boring hotel room.

Save on Meals Too

You'll also find that going with condo rental gives you the ability to save money on your meals too. When you rent a condo, you'll have a kitchen at your disposal, which means that you won't have to eat out for every single meal, which can get expensive fast. Most of the time, a vacation rental is equipped with a nice kitchen, including dishes and cookware, allowing you to cook for your family. You can spend some time cooking in the condo and then choose to go out when you can afford it if you want to. This is just another way that condo rentals can provide you with great savings.

It is certainly easy to appreciate that a vacation rental is a magnificent alternative when you are longing for a much needed vacation. So numerous advantages are obtainable and with a condo rental membership, you can save big time, allowing you to go on a exotic vacation, even when your resources are a smidgen on the sticky side. Gay Holidays: Sites In Morocco

By Howie Holben

Morocco is a land of legends and myths, steeped in rich history and culture, where travelers can stay in a hotel made of sand, trek across the desert on camels and bargain with spice and rug traders in old-world marketplaces. In many places homes have been converted into hotels, called riads, that are sometimes more welcoming for visitors on gay holidays and offer visitors the opportunity to experience the life and culture of Morocco more closely. There is no definable scene in Morocco, which is a conservative Muslim country; however there are many reasons to include Morocco in your gay travel planning, including pristine beaches, ancient ruins, enticing souks (markets) that wind through narrow streets offering a variety of wares, vast desert landscapes and amazing architecture.

With exquisite Muslim mosques, ancient Roman ruins, snake charmers and street performers, a Morocco vacation is an exceptional opportunity to indulge in this unique countrys sights, colors, sounds and smells. No Morocco travel experience would be complete without exploring the Dar Si Said Museum in Marrakech, winding through the many quarters of the Fes medina, gazing at Casablancas amazing art deco architecture and standing on an ancient wall in Tangier to view the expansive ocean and breathtaking sunsets.

American and European socialites, writers and composers involved in the jet set scene once flocked to Morocco as a preferred gay vacation destination; however, while Morocco was once known as a liberal playground welcoming gay men and lesbians from around the world for vacations, a push by recent Muslim leadership to move the country back towards the strict moral code of Islam has caused this welcoming atmosphere to change. Although the law is not commonly enforced, homosexuality was deemed a criminal offence in 1962 and remains so today. Same-sex conduct is punishable by fines and between six months to three years in prison.

The government released a statement in early 2009 stating that homosexuality would not be tolerated and that increased efforts to repress same-sex conduct would be established. This may mean increased enforcement of this 1962 law. This is not uncommon in primarily Muslim countries and does not mean that Morocco should be avoided when planning travel.

It does; however, indicate that awareness and discretion are advised wile on a Morocco vacation. To avoid possible issues, travelers may want to consider participating in a travel group vacation or planning their trip with the assistance of a gay tours agency well-versed in planning vacations in Morocco.

Gay Travel Destinations In Hawaii

By Howie Holben

Hawaii provides a pristine paradise that attracts travelers from across the globe to its many-colored picturesque beaches. Because of a welcoming, warm population and a blend of Polynesian, Asian and white European cultures, this island paradise has long been a popular travel destination for both straight and gay vacations. The LGBT community in Hawaii is relatively low-key and not entirely outwardly visible, but those on gay travel will find a welcoming level of acceptance that has come about, in part, from many generations of varied cultures living together with no specific dominant religious or cultural influence as an overriding factor.

Seventy percent of Hawaiis population resides on Oahu, the third largest island in the chain, which is also home to the state capitol of Honolulu and the popular tourist destination, Waikiki. When traveling to Oahu on gay holidays, the Mexican caf La Cucaracha is a must-see and offers authentic cuisine, music and margaritas. Oahus LGBT community can also be found at the community book, novelty and clothing store, 80% Straight Inc., located in the Waikiki Grand, or one of the LGBT bars and clubs, including Fusion Waikiki, Angles Waikiki, Hulas Bar & Lei Stand and In-Between. For those who want to head to the beach, a warm welcome will be waiting at Queens Surf and below the lighthouse at the world-famous Diamond Head beach.

Those who choose a gay tour to Maui might not find a vibrant scene, other than a small area of Little Beach in Makena, but exploring quaint villages, watching the sunset atop Mount Haleakala and sunbathing near waterfalls all make Maui an enticing locale for gay travel retreats. If exploring what is considered the most tropical and scenic island of them all is part of your plans, Kauai is sure to deliver no matter what time of year you visit. Kauai is home to a clothing optional LGBT-friendly bed and breakfast, as well as an LGBT-owned villa with a Japanese flair and a clothing optional lagoon pool, and is an ideal setting for exploring waterfalls, amazing cliffs and vast canyons.

The Big Island is another friendly option with plenty of LGBT-friendly lodging options, as well as several businesses and restaurants and one bar. Gay vacations on the Big Island include everything from visiting an active volcano or strolling on black sand beaches to exploring a rain forest and gazing in wonderment at the snow on Mauna Kea.

There are many reasons to travel to Hawaii, which is the most remote island chain in the world and a must-see paradise. In a single trip to the islands you can scuba dive or snorkel among coral reefs, explore a volcano, visit a pineapple farm, ride horses on black sand beaches, learn the hula and attend an authentic luau. To make sure you do not miss anything that Hawaii has to offer, use a gay holidays tour, or enlist the assistance of a travel agency well-versed in planning gay vacations.

The Importance Of The Church To St. Andrews

By Frederick Hoymer

St Andrews is a popular tourist spot when visiting Scotland. This city is on the east coast and bears the name of St Andrew, an apostle. The church in St Andrews dates back to the 8th century and is a very important historical building in town. The actual town settled and grew directly next to the cathedral. Today the ancient cathedral is ruins.

The first people to settle in St Andrews were most likely nomadic people during the Stone Age. Eventually when tools developed then stayed in one spot and cleared trees to produce land that could be used for farming and other agricultural purposes. St Andrews also was the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland which gave it sufficient political influence in Europe.

You will be quite surprised that St Andrews actually has very nice weather. Many people think that it is raw and cold but the winter is actually very mild and it is very rare to see snow. There are several frosts during the winter. The summer does not get overly warm with average temperatures in the low 20 degree C.

While St Andrews is located quite northerly the weather is actually fairly mild and is considered a maritime climate. The winter does not get overly cold with only a few frosts and snow is quite rare. The summer tends to be cool with temperatures just around 20 degrees C.

The University of St Andrews is one of the oldest and originated in 1410. The first subjects studied were divinity, canon law and the arts. After the Scottish Reformation the courses of study changed from being mainly religious to a more modern course of study. Eventually by the end of the 1800s it would have its own school of medicine and would expand dramatically.

The university in St Andrews is one of the oldest in the world as it first opened its doors in 1410. This school was mainly for the priesthood as the main subjects were canon law, divinity and the arts. The entire course of study was altered after the Scottish Reformation and stopped being religious based to more modern courses. The school began to expand until it included its own school of medicine.

It is possible to view the ruins of the old cathedral which was the tallest building in Scotland until it was destroyed. The west and east gables as well as the south nave wall are still standing. The ruins of St Andrews castle can be viewed at the top of the cliff in its original spot.

Gay Vacations: Sites In France

By Howie Holben

Traveling through France on a jaunt across Europe, or as a standalone gay vacations destination, is a trip that everyone should experience at least once. With snowcapped alps, the magnificent French Riviera, world famous art collections, pristine beaches, pastoral landscapes dotted with medieval castles, villages and ruins that tell the story of Frances diverse history, and the truly exquisite cosmopolitan city of Paris, travelers are sure to find exactly what they are looking for when visiting this unique country.

While visitors on gay vacations tend to stay around Paris to enjoy the accepting atmosphere that Paris is known for, while experiencing the heart of Frances LGBT culture and visiting the citys famous cultural and historical landmarks, travelers will find that Paris accepting atmosphere extends across the country and there are plenty of LGBT establishments and things to see and do no matter where you travel in France. For over 200 years, Frances community has enjoyed life without anti-sodomy laws, and civil unions have been commonplace for the last decade. With both the law and the laissez-faire attitude common among the French on their side, LGBT travelers will find France an enjoyable place and offers many wonderful gay tours.

Visitors will find a number of community festivals and events taking place throughout the year in different parts of the country, including pride celebrations in many cities, a gay and lesbian film festival in Paris and Paris world-famous pride festival and parade. A gay vacation in Paris should also include a stop at the Legay Choc bakery in the Marais district, as well as the collection of male images at ArtMenParis and the female impersonation cabaret shows at LArtishow, Madame Arthur and Chez Michou. Paris nightlife often starts early with bars opening in the afternoon, followed by clubs opening around midnight and thumping the night away, often until noon.

Men interested in exploring the bawdier side of Paris gay vacations will find that cruising spots, bars with backrooms and sex clubs are easy to find and quite popular with visitors, as well as locals. Saunas, aka bathhouses, are also plentiful; however, they work a bit differently in France than they do in America or Canada. French saunas do not have private rooms, but rather cubicles that are set aside for a bit of privacy, and they are not 24-hour operations. Most of the activity takes place in the afternoon, rather than the evening or night, and Sunday afternoons are particularly popular.

Most gay travel hotspots cater largely to men, have little to no visible lesbian presence and offer few establishments dedicated to the lesbian community. Women will be delighted to discover that this is not the case in Paris. Parisian lesbians and visitors enjoy a multitude of venues and organizations that can be found throughout the city, but particularly in the neighborhoods of Marais, Grands Boulevards, Halles-Beaubourg, Saint Germain des Pres and Palais Royal. Palais Royal is home to one of the oldest lesbian bars in Paris, while the Bastille-Republique district has a delightful community bookstore with a distinct Sapphic flare. There is also a lesbian walking group and even a sex shop that caters solely to women.

Although Paris might be the most visited gay vacation destination in France, many other options are available throughout the country, including Avignon in Provence, Montpellier and Nice on the Mediterranian coast, Annecy in the Alps, Nantes in Brittany and the nude community beaches of Camargue. For those who hope to rub elbows with the rich and famous, Saint Tropez on the French Riviera should not be missed, while those looking for a romantic retreat might opt for an LGBT-owned B ... B outside of Bourdeaux. With so many gay travel options to choose from, France is truly an ideal setting for gay romance travel.

A Historians Dream Is Canterbury - Kent

By Frederick Hoymer

For those of you that appreciate a perfect combination of coast and countryside as well as a variety of things to do then Canterbury - Kent is the place to visit. Canterbury will inspire any visitor as one will just fall head over heels when you see the majestic countryside as well as take a walk back into the historical past and visit the heritage museums and castle sites.

Archeologists have stated that Canterbury was occupied during the prehistoric times as Bronze Age pots and Neolithic as well as Paleolithic axes were discovered. The main settles in Canterbury were Celts and thereafter the Romans took occupation and rebuilt the town around the first century Anno Domino.

The Canterbury Tales come from as far back as when Thomas Becket's murder took place in the Canterbury Cathedral around 1170 and this cathedral was originally founded by St Augustine in 597 of which he became the very first Archbishop. Canterbury Cathedral around that time became home to Christian pilgrims from around the world.

Save Money: Great Budget Travel Tips For A Wise Costa Rica Vacation

By Victor Krumm

For nearly two decades, tropical Costa Rica has been a favorite vacation destination for North Americans and, increasingly, Europeans. Merely as big as West Virginia, its many attractions are world-famous: more than 780 miles of uncrowded coastlines on two oceans; parks and reserves covering 25 percent of its land area; and an incredible diversity of plants and animals.

Like volcanoes? There is majestic Arenal, still active, where visitors to its many hot springs can enjoy tropical drinks in their bathing suits and be enthralled from its volcanic light shows at night. Or Irazu Volcano where, when the weather is clear, the Pacific and Atlantic oceans can be seen at the same time! There is also terrific fishing, some of the greatest surfing anywhere, whitewater or family rafting adventures, ziplining high in the tropical forests, and, of course, adult nightlife. For many people, this is the Land of Pura Vida.

This little Central American country offers a vacation for every budget. Certainly, there are spectacular hotels and resorts. For example, the Real Intercontinental Hotel is where heads of state stay. There are top rated resorts like the Papagayo Four Seasons Resort, La Gaia Hotel, and Los Suenos Resorts. But, they are not for everybody. If you are in the latter category or simply do not want to spend your time or money in such fancy digs, Costa Rica can be enjoyed very well on a much littler budget. Good news! Prudent budget travel is available.

1. Travel off season and save 20 percent or more at resorts and hotels

a. Budget travelers should schedule around Peak Season, of which there are two: Christmas and Easter. Christmas through New Years week (December 15-January 5) and Easter Week are Peak Season for two groups of tourists: overseas visitors and locals. Summer vacation for Costa Rica schools begins in December and tens of thousands of Costa Rican families flock to the most popular beaches. Easter week is another very popular vacation period for locals. They will find the best bargains. For you, prices will still be way better than in Europe or the U.S. but you can do far better at other times.

b. After Christmas comes High Season which equates with winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Many vacationers travel Costa Rica between January through April because of the sunny tropical weather, a fact not lost on hotels and resorts. If you are a Snowbird, expect to be plucked a bit more during High Season, just like you would in sunny Florida.

c. The best travel and hotel bargains are found during the Green (Low) Season. Do not worry about the weather. Showers are not every day and when they occur it is normally for an hour or two in the late afternoon. For the very best budget travel deals travel Costa Rica between September and mid-November when (if you ask) there are often discounts of 20 percent or more waiting. Finally, June through mid-August finds students and families from the States and elsewhere on vacation, too, but prices and availability of hotel and resort rooms are good in most places.

2. If you plan to rent a car, think ahead and save $25 a day

Many Costa Rica tourists rent a vehicle online and are shocked to learn when they arrive that the rental agency wants an additional $25 or more per day for liability insurance! Rule 1: If your home automobile policy includes liability coverage, that insurance is good in Costa Rica. Recommendation: bring a copy of the policy along with the fax and email of your insurance agent and save that money for your vacation. Rule 2: Many credit cards offer a little known benefit: liability insurance coverage for rentals when the card is used. Contact your credit card company before you travel for best results. Rule 3: Be polite but informed. After all, it is your money.

3. Save at least five percent on purchases because Cash is King

Another way to conserve your budget is to pay in cash. You will find that lots of merchants prefer being paid in dollars over credit cards. All you need to do is ask and you may receive a discount of 5 percent or even more. Ask "Que (pronounced "K") es discuento por efectivo?" which means "What is the discount for cash?" Be sure the bills are new and not defaced with even a tiny tear. And, bring smaller denominations like $20 and $50 bills. Many restaurants, merchants, and hostels cannot break a $100 bill.

4. Save 10 percent while dining: Do not pay two tips in a restaurant

You will discover that a lot of dining rooms, particularly those catering to foreign Costa Rica vacationers, automatically include a 10 percent tip (called "servicio") on a bill. They are supposed to to advise patrons on the menu but few pubs, cafes, or restaurants do so and so are rewarded by unknowing foreigners who leave a second tip. If you pay attention to your bill, you might save yourself paying two tips. And, remember, when in doubt, ask if the tip is included on the bill.

Businesses Urged To Seek Language Advice Before Embarking On International Trade

By Frances Pallett

Businesses involved in international trade and those employing multilingual staff back home need to pay heed to language advice and cultural support to succeed respectively in their overseas endeavours and ensure harmony in the workplace.

Would you know what to do if your South African contacts invited you to a braai, how to charm your Japanese partners or settle a workplace dispute between migrant workers whose first language was not English?

The Regional Language Network works with businesses in the West Midlands to help them to overcome language and cultural barriers through offering language advice, signposting and access to free resources and language services.

If you are unsure what to say or do when visiting other countries or speaking with foreign clients, the RLN has a variety of free downloadable resources to help you learn basic phrases and understand cultural differences.

The RLN provides cultural briefings on over thirty countries including Russia, China, Brazil and Germany, to help you build better working relationships and avoid the embarrassing mistakes arising from cultural misunderstandings. These PDFs offer language advice, business culture advice and information on the geography and economy of each country. Culture can often be overlooked as businesses focus on improving their knowledge of the language, but an awareness of the differences in business etiquette and knowing how to treat your hosts respectfully is equally as important as putting your language skills into practise.

And it's not just overseas...language and cultural differences within the workplace can prevent your business from running smoothly. It is worthwhile you seeking language advice from an organisation such as the RLN West Midlands if you employ migrant workers.

If you have multilingual or migrant workers it is important to recognise the language barriers and cultural differences that will prevent effective communication. To ensure your workplace runs smoothy you will need to make sure, for example, that health and safety information is presented in the appropriate languages and that workers whose first language is not English or those who cannot understand it very well can access interpreters or mentors to assist them in work-related matters.

How to Choose the Right London Serviced Apartment

By Rajul Chande

There are a lot of traps to avoid in finding a serviced apartment in London. This article will help you sidestep them and help you make all the right choices. You'll hopefully end up with spacious and good-value accommodation to enjoy your stay in London.

There are several advantages and disadvantages of serviced apartments that you should always take into account.

Advantages of London serviced apartments:

* "Greater space per dollar invested". Serviced apartments will often give you more space for similar money.

* "Liberty". Serviced apartments let you prepare your own meals (so you save lots of money!) - this is a godsend particularly when travelling with your family.

* "Feeling local". It "feels good" to have your own apartment in London. You may also feel more like a local!

* "Long stays". It's more comfortable to be in an apartment if visiting London for more than a few days.

* "A flexible arrangement". Serviced apartments often give you greater versatility, particularly if you don't want to deal with the paperwork and hassle of a long-term rental.

Disadvantages of London serviced apartments:

* "Absence of hotel services". Sometimes hotels can save you time (even though London serviced apartments also often come with extra services).

* "Absence of concierge service". This is certainly one downside to many serviced apartments, though there are some which still do provide a concierge.

* "That special X factor?". Serviced apartments can't always compete with the extra "wow" that some hotels generate when they serve you especially well.

* "Uncertainty". It's not always clear what is included in a serviced apartment and what isn't (e.g. toilet paper?). You should always aim to check before you arrive.

You can often pay 20% less for a serviced apartment than a similar hotel (though prices can vary). But always ask yourself: how important are those "extras" you get in a hotel when set against the extra value you might get from a serviced apartment?

If you end up choosing a London serviced apartment, then you should take the following aspects into account before making your booking:

* You sometimes gain increased bargaining power if you book direct.

* Visit Britain (the official UK tourism body) has developed accreditation criteria for serviced apartments, which you should try to check before booking.

* Find out any extra costs you might be billed before you book (e.g. telephone costs).

* Be careful about the specific apartment you are given. Don't trust web photos and always look at various options.

* Research guest reviews...even very average apartments may sometimes be described as "luxury".

Please be careful and make sure you do proper research before booking your London serviced apartment. Read the London Hotels Insight blog which pre-selects the best serviced apartments based on guest reviews.

Different Attractions In Liverpool On Merseyside

By Frederick Hoymer

There is an enormous amount to see and to do when visiting Liverpool. The city was the European capital of culture in 2008 and is shows. From football to festivals and museums to beautiful architecture and fantastic nightlife, Liverpool has it all.

The city has a wonderful maritime history. It is again a wealthy international city, but this is not the first time is has reached that status. At the start of the 19th century, up to 40% of the worlds trade was passing through the cities docklands. This added massively to the influx of wealth there as having one of the busiest ports in the worlds was a great contribution.

The profits from all of this maritime endeavour were used to fund all of the beautiful architecture and museums and galleries that exist today for all our pleasure to view. The city is home to the UKs largest collection of grade one and two listed buildings, whilst there are 8 museums and galleries dotted throughout the city. All of the specimens, paintings, sculptures and artefact's comprise the greatest collection held jointly within the UK.

The cultural heart of Liverpool is St George's Plateau which is home to the Walker gallery which contains a collection covering six centuries, and has one of the finest collections beyond London. Hope street is the centre of the cities art deco philharmonic hall, a university and performing arts centre.

The city is also home to the largest Cathedral within the UK and the fifth in the world in the Anglican Liverpool Cathedral which is linked by the cobbled streets of Hope street to the Catholic Met Museum.

In terms of museums, look no further for modern art housed at the Tate Liverpool, sister museum to the Tate Modern in London. Also to find out about a part of our history that is surrounded by controversy pop over to the slavery museum that will help you to discover the darker side of the history of the great trading exploits of the city. For fans of the Beatles, there are different tours that offer people the chance to find out where the fab four kicked off their careers and began to make a name for themselves.

Aside from the cultural side of the city, there are other attractions to enjoy. The nightlife within the city is fantastic and boasts some of the most popular spots in the country. Sport also, and in particular football with the rival factions of Liverpool FC and Everton is hugely popular here. The local football derby's that occur twice yearly between the two teams bring in interest from all over. Moreover, the city has a wonderful range of diverse food outlets to suit all tastes.
