By Chase Crawford

Are you planning a great vacation this year or the next? Whether you are traveling alone, with your family, friends or your special someone, Japan is definitely one of the unique destinations that you can go to. Let this article point you to the best places to see in Japan especially if this is your first time to visit.

If you are not that familiar with Japan, then you should know that it is an archipelago with 6,852 islands. On its largest island can be found its capital, Tokyo City which is also the most populated urban area in Japan and among the top in the world. Having said that, the country has an estimated 127 million population.

So if you really want to experience the best places to visit in Japan, here is a short list that I have prepared.

Mt. Fuji

This magnificent mountain is actually an active volcano that stands at 12,389 feet above see level. It is the highest point in Japan. It is so beautiful that most foreigners would immediately imagine Mt. Fuji whenever the word 'Japan' crosses their minds. But if you think the only thing that you can do there is to look at its grandeur, then you are definitely mistaken. You can climb this giant, in fact there were an estimated 300,000 people who did the same in 2009. It is best to go in groups to better enjoy the hike and the scenery.

Itsukushima Shrine

Miyajima, as it is more commonly called, is a Shinto shrine that has been built since the 6th century, making it one of the oldest tourist destination and establishments in Japan. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as a National Treasure by the Japanese government. What makes it worth visiting? You will surely be amazed by this shrine that was built on the bay itself, making it seem like floating.

Hot springs

Japan has been blessed by many hot springs, perhaps because the country is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Many tourists both local and foreign frequent these springs to bathe and relax their tired bodies and minds. Some of the more popular of these springs include: Kirishima, Shirahama, Toyako, Shibu, Kusatsu, Nikko, Hanamaki, Kinosaki, and Noboribetsu just to name a few. There are hundreds of these hot springs scattered all over Japan.

Cherry Blossom Festivals

If you want to think of a romantic Japan, then go for the festivities revolving on the beautiful cherry blossom trees. People set up markets and parties around these tries making it a grand celebration of sorts. There are performing arts as well as traditional Japanese foods. If you want to visit one of these festivals, it is best to go from the months of March to May.

Without a doubt Japan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and also among the most diverse in terms of its culture and natural sights. There are other great places to see in Japan and usually even a month's stay in this country will not be enough to experience at least half of their top tourist destinations. You may even want to try some English speaking jobs in Japan if you want to work and travel there.
