User's Guide To Lake Cumberland Striper Fishing

If you are an avid sports fisherman, you will want to try catching striped bass in this lake. It is one of the largest artificially made lakes, and there are over 1200 miles of shore line to cast from. This body of water is over one hundred miles in length. The best fishing you ever had may happen right there. Lake Cumberland striper fishing is a unique experience.

The lake is teeming with striped bass. They can be fished off the shore or trolled for in deep waters. Some of them get to be quite big, over thirty two inches in length. Striped bass are a lot of fun to catch. If you know where and when to find them, you'll be able to catch your limit relatively quickly.

They have been protected for years by size limitations and quantity restrictions. These laws are strictly enforced. You must get a license before you fish, and show that you understand the laws. Since you are limited in how many fish you can catch, you may want to try for the bigger fish. They give a good fight, and some of them are record breaking. A guide can usually show you where your best chances are for catching a big one.

Bass like certain conditions such as warm water. The guides know where the warm patches of water lay. Bass may also be clustered out along sandy flats.

They can also show you how to fish very close to the shore. Large bass are frequently basking there in the warm water. The professional angler will cast his rig onto the sandy shore rather than in the water near the fish. Then the lure is bounced into the water and is frequently grabbed by a fish.

The winds can also be used in your favor when you fish in towards shore. Bait fish will struggle towards your boat against the current created by the wind. The big fish will follow after the bait fish.

In deeper water, many fishermen use sonar equipment to give them a bearing on schools of fish. They may troll for the fish, leaving baited hooks dangling over the sides of the boat while moving very slowly. They will also attach weights to their gear and try for the schools that are deep below the surface.

Striped bass are a lot of fun to catch. They can put up a good fight, and it is very exciting to bring one in. This area is a perfect place to go for stripers.
