The Information You Will Need When Booking Your Rental Vehicle

By Jason Hall

Planning a holiday? Then you are probably booking all of your travel arrangements. When booking a hotel or a flight there is minimal information that you will need to have in front of you to make your reservations but when booking a vehicle for your holiday there's a few additional things to think about before leaping online or on the phone to book your reservation.

At the least you will need to think through the dates that you will need a rental vehicle for. Although you may be tempted to pick up your rental at the airport when you arrive you may be better off waiting until the following day to pick up your rental vehicle near your hotel and the same with dropping it off the day before you depart. Doing this can drop days off your rental time and can significantly reduce the amount you are paying for your rental.

Of course, you will need to also ensure that you not only contact your car insurance company about how they will cover a rental for you, but also you have to have this information in hand when you are calling around to different companies to make a reservation. Have your driver's license ready will also help since some companies will want this information at the time of booking, while other companies will wait until you pick up the rental to take it. If someone else is going to be placing their name on the car rental then it will be their license and insurance information that you want to provide to the company.

You will need to make sure that the who is renting the vehicle has a clear driver's license and if there is anything open to doubt on their license then you may need to address this with the rental company in advance to help avoid any issues when you arrive to pick up the vehicle. It is best to know if there is a controversy with the rental and if there's any questions about the credibility of the driver, the forms of id that they are going to be using, the age of the driver, or what documentation they will need to present at the time of the rental all these issues ought to be addressed in that preliminary reservation phone call.

Reserving your rental car with a credit card is always the safest and best way for international holiday booking, especially. If you only have a debit card and will use that instead of booking your holiday then it is best to leave the company this right from the beginning. Most companies have a debit card as security, but you may want to have additional funds may well be asked to provide additional identification when used. Either way it is better to have information ahead to avoid any problems in the future.
