How and When To Book The Cheapest Flights

By Bradley Bruce

When it comes to finding cheap flights, timing is everything. First and foremost, you will need to plan ahead in order to get the best deals. You will also want to be flexible. Changing your travel date by a week can yield a big savings, so if you're booking during major holidays or the peak season, requires the ability to shift your travel dates in order to get the best deals.

The higher number of people competing for seats and availability, along with increasing fuel costs contributes to higher ticket prices. Airlines are cutting back on the number of flights, so being creative and flexible on when you can go is the best way to save money.

If you want to travel during peak times, such as the August summer holidays or over the Christmas period, be sure and book a number of months out so that you can get the best deals and to ensure that you can actually book. If you can, you'll want to avoid travelling during the more popular times if you can.

Another thing to factor in is if you're flying to popular destinations. If you go during peak season, this can be quite expensive, added to the very inflated hotel rates. To avoid paying for hotel rooms and flights at top prices, you might consider shifting your dates of travel. If you're flexible, you can make big savings. Change the date of a family visit or holiday to just before or right after the year-end holiday season for more savings.

Look to go just before or after the school holidays in the summer for example to get good deals. The middle of September is usually a good time to pick up a deal, and you'll find that temperatures in most destinations are still warm. In fact, many prefer going when it has cooled down slightly as mid-summer can be a bit too hot for our pale complexions.
