Well with the way the world is going today everyone needs to conserve a little cash. Here are five little tips to help you save on your airlines if you are going to travel in the next few months.
Look for Seasonal Sales - Fuel prices have been on the declind and the holiday demand is obviously over so there are many airlines offering lower prices. Try to find a major discount carrier that is offering a sale or at least running some sort of special that you can take advantage of. You could do advance purchase tickets which usually save a lot of money. I think that in general the fares will be lower this year than we saw last year. Don't hold out for lower prices though, if the price fits your range, book it now.
Watch for extra fees " Before you book that super cheap fare, make sure there are no extra fees that are going to make it more than it is worth. These include things like checked bag fees, taxes and service fees. If you are checking bags make sure that the fee for a checked bag added to the price of your ticket is still cheaper than another airline.
Join Airline Mailing Lists - Got to the websites of the airlines and join their mailing lists. You will then be the first to know when they are running a special or a sale. This gives you the advantage of booking fares before anybody else. If the airline sends out a marketing email like this, chances are that is the best deal you will get. If they were to further lower the price they would make every customer they marketed to mad.
Find Low Demand Destinations - Some airlines fly into smaller airports that arent as expensive as the larger airports. Granted you will be on a smaller plane, but it may save you money. For instance if you were going to Orlando, you might save flying into Sanford, FL which is just 20-30 miles away.
If you can't save on your flight save on your hotel - If you are booking a hotel, look for a good deal on that if you can save on the flight. Right now hotels are really lowering rates compared to previous years. As a matter of fact there has been about a 7% decline in hotel prices over the past year. This is the first time this has happened in at least 5 years.
I am always looking for a good travel deal, keep an eye out for future articles that will share with you how to save the most when you travel.
