Golf Vacations On Hilton Head Island

By Steve Mason Linda Thompson

Hilton Head Island is known for its beautiful scenery, inviting tropical climate, and most of all its many golf courses. In fact, there are over twenty courses on the island alone, and more can be found on the adjacent islands of Fripp and Dafuskie. These courses are designed for all ages and skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and many of the classes held at these courses are taught by PGA professionals.

One of the most popular golf schools on Hilton Head, the Island Golf School, is one of three schools of the same name in South Carolina. Each one has its own distinctive differences, however, and the Golden Bear, the school located on the island, is no exception. This school is popular both for the level of instruction offered to players of all skill levels, and for the Nicklaus-designed 7014 yard course.

The Sea Pines Resort, one of the largest and oldest resorts on the island, is home to many golf courses and golf schools, including the Harbour Town Golf Links, located nearby the iconic Harbour Town Lighthouse, and home to the Verizon Heritage Tournament. Nearby courses include the newer Pete Dye-designed Heron Point, and the well-known Ocean course.

The Hank Haney Junior Golf Academy is a popular option for beginning golfers wishing to receive expert instruction and improve their game. The academy offers a combination of academics, training, and competition and has students from both the United States and abroad, and students can take day courses, week long courses, or enroll in one of the many golf programs that are offered on a seasonal basis.

Many more golf courses and schools are located on Hilton Head Island, and realizing this it is so easy to see why so many people visit, and return to the area year after year. If you are looking for the perfect golf vacation destination, look no further than Hilton Head Island.
