Explore A Slice Of History With Egypt Holidays

By Claire Collins

If you are intrigued by history and love to travel to interesting places, then Egypt holidays are definitely for you. Discover it all, from the Avenue of the Sphinxes, with their mysterious background, to the amazing and beautiful tombs of the Valley of the Queens. You can also find a slice of luxury in Egypt and live like a Pharoah, by booking one of the five star hotels, such as the Hilton Luxor.

Take the time to explore the Avenue of the Sphinxes, a two mile stretch of huge temples, sphinx statues, and other sights which are thousands of years old. The Luxor government has put in efforts to make this the greatest open-air museum in the world, and there's no denying that this is exactly what it is.

This will be one of the highlights of your Egypt holidays, for sure. And it has only been open to the public for a year, so you'll be seeing something not everyone has seen! When this avenue was excavated almost 700 sphinxes were found, alongside other statues, including relics of Queen Cleopatra VI's visit to the Nile thousands of years ago.

Meanwhile, the Luxor Temple was built in 1400 BCE and still stands today on the east bank of the Nile. It was dedicated to the great Gods Amu and Mut, and took pride of place as the main feature of the Opet Festival back in ancient times. During the festival, which celebrated fertility, great statues of Amu and Mut were carried along the Nile.

The lavish tombs in the Valley of the Queens were formerly maintained by mortuary priests who performed daily rituals, prayers and provided offerings. These tombs date back to ancient Egyptian times where wives of Pharaohs were buried here, and shouldn't be missed on Luxor holidays. Located near the Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile, it's a great place to visit on your holiday.
