Costa Brava Hotels: Plenty Happening In Spain This Spring

By Claire Collins

If you're planning a Spanish holiday in the spring months, then you'll find plenty of things happening all over the country. If you're visiting the Algarve, stick around for Easter Sunday, when the fun and colourful Flower Torches festival takes place in Sao Bras de Alportel.

The festival begins at the crack of dawn, and if you're up early you can watch as men cry "hallelujah" while carrying flower torches through the streets of the town. Join in the day's celebrations, including music and feasts, and later join the procession which heads to the church, where the decorative flower torches are judged and awarded prizes. There are plenty of Algarve hotels nearby so you can be right on the doorstep of the action.

If you're heading to the Costa Blanca, then make sure you're there on the third of May, for the Festival of the Crosses. Based on the search for the Holy Cross, the festival is all about making decorative crosses, and is overall a positive event. Everyone tries to create the most elaborate design so visitors will be able to witness quite a magical collection. With so many great Costa Blanca hotels to choose from, you're sure to be close to some of the festive events that will be happening all over the region.

If you're heading to the Costa Brava, then later in May you can join in a fun and active event which takes place here every year. This is the annual 40 kilometre walk which sees a couple of thousand keen walkers turn up to take part, for no reason other than that they enjoy a good walk.

There is no competition or race, so whatever your level of fitness, you can enjoy the fresh air, beautiful scenery and meet new people from all over the world. The walk begins from the town of Banyoles, and you will find plenty of places to stay and you can find some excellent deals on many Costa Brava hotels if you book ahead.
