Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort Hotels:Not Just Interesting Architecture

By Nancy Bobby

If you have ever driven through the Walt Disney World resort property, you are certainly familiar with some of the well-known landmarks. Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth (the "golf ball") at Epcot, and Hollywood Studio's Tower of Terror all are readily recognizable by the millions of Disney vacationers each year. Yet there are two more Disney landmarks that you can't miss when visiting Disney World and yet they may very well be the "hidden gems" of Walt Disney World: The Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort hotels.

These two sister resorts are actually Starwood properties, who owns the Sheraton and Westin hotel companies. Yet despite being non-Disney owned, they are located on Disney property, just a short walk or boat ride from both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. This perfect location, plus access to Disney transportation is just the beginning of a number of benefits in staying at one of these resorts.

The Swan and Dolphin each have a very distinctive architectural exterior, and beautiful interiors and landscaping. Designed by award-winning architect Michael Graves, the resorts are decorated beautifully, with a fabulous shared pool, and many luxurious amenities that are on a par with the Disney deluxe properties.

There are also several restaurants, from elegant full-service establishments to quick-service cafes, in a variety of price ranges, themes, and types of food.

A definite benefit to staying at the Swan and Dolphin is that guests have Disney resort privileges. This means that, in addition to the great location and transportation that have already been mentioned, Swan and Dolphin resort guests can attend the Disney parks Extra Magic Hours, receive free parking at the theme parks, and also can have their theme park packages delivered to their resort hotel.

One of the nicest benefits to staying at the Swan or Dolphin, are the Westin "Heavenly Beds". Consisting of a luxurious pillow top mattress, triple sheets, down blanket and comforter, and goose down/feather pillows, relaxing in a Heavenly Bed is truly the perfect ending to a long, busy day at the Disney parks.

Although the Swan and Dolphin are "deluxe" resorts, their prices are usually less than a similar Disney resort. Additionally, frequent discounts are available for Florida residents, senior citizens, government employees, members of the military, nurses, and teachers.

If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World, you owe it to yourself to discover the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort for your accommodations. Beautiful properties, tons of amenities, super location, Disney perks, and all at a great value. They are true gems indeed!
