Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort Hotels:Not Just Interesting Architecture

By Nancy Bobby

Walt Disney World vacationers are familiar with some very recognizable icons of the Disney property. Traveling through the extensive resort and theme parks, you can't miss seeing Cinderella's Castle, Spaceship Earth at Epcot, or Hollywood Studio's Tower of Terror. But a couple of other distinctive landmarks rise from the Florida property owned by Disney, that are less well-known to visitors: the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort hotels.

These two sister resorts are actually Starwood properties, who owns the Sheraton and Westin hotel companies. Yet despite being non-Disney owned, they are located on Disney property, just a short walk or boat ride from both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. This perfect location, plus access to Disney transportation is just the beginning of a number of benefits in staying at one of these resorts.

The buildings are stunning architecturally, as are the lovely interiors and grounds. Designed by award-winning architect Michael Graves, the two properties offer beautiful decor, a fantastic shared pool complex, and multiple high-end amenities and facilities that rival any of the deluxe Disney-owned properties.

In addition, there are a number of full-service restaurants and lounges, in all price ranges, tastes, and styles.

A definite benefit to staying at the Swan and Dolphin is that guests have Disney resort privileges. This means that, in addition to the great location and transportation that have already been mentioned, Swan and Dolphin resort guests can attend the Disney parks Extra Magic Hours, receive free parking at the theme parks, and also can have their theme park packages delivered to their resort hotel.

Arguably the best part of the Swan and Dolphin may very well be the Westin hotel's "Heavenly Beds". Luxurious bed furnishings include a pillow top mattress, triple sheets, down blanket and comforter, and goose down/feather pillows. After a tiring day at the theme parks, unwinding in one of the Heavenly Beds is a wonderful way to relax.

While the Swan and Dolphin are considered "deluxe" resorts, since they are not truly Disney properties, their prices are usually less than any of the comparable Disney resorts. And if you are a Florida resident, senior citizen, government employee, member of the military, nurse, or teacher, you may very well qualify for a discount!

Discover the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort on your next Disney vacation. With a great location, a host of superb benefits, a lovely property, Disney guest perks, and a great value, you will not be disappointed in what you find.
