Dealing With A Phobia Of Airplanes And Travel

By Chris Channing

You don't have to feel silly to admit that you have a fear of flying. Statistics show that this is a common phobia among the modern world. What should separate you from the rest is that you are able to realize your fear and as a result, use all of your energy to neutralize it from existence.

The goal of coping is to relax. You need to find a way to either take your mind off of the fear of flying for the present, or try to prove to yourself that your fear is irrational. You are able to make use of breathing techniques, mediation, and others- but your best bet is to find a good book or movie to take along with you for the flight. That way you can keep focus on something in particular for more than a short period of time.

You may be under the mindset that you have to prepare for the panic of a flight before the flight itself. That isn't true, since jet charter employees are trained in helping passengers that have a phobia of flying. They can provide you with comfort items, such as a pillow or refreshment, or help you through relaxation techniques. Don't forget their help, and certainly don't feel like you don't have help at your disposal.

No one is above the help of a therapist or a doctor when concerning a phobia of flight. Even though you may feel like a lesser person for seeking professional help, you are really all the stronger for being able to address your fear directly and solving it like an adult. Professional help via therapist can be expensive, yet some organizations provide discounted or free help for families and individuals that don't make a lot of income.

Eat a good meal the night before the flight. A meal full of carbohydrates, such as that of pasta, will help give you energy in the event you can't eat the following day. Having the jitters before a flight can make some nauseous, and can just worsen the situation. Having a good buildup of proteins and carbohydrates already will keep you in good health if you find you can't stomach even a crumb of food.

Fear can be said to be a lack of understanding in many cases. A fear of elevators can be solved by seeing how safe they really are. Airplanes are the same way- they are actually very safe structures piloted by disciplined individuals. Find reading material about private jets, their crews, and the technology behind them to keep any fears in check.
