Traveling France : Where To Stay In Paris

By Sally Height

Paris is a city famous around the world for, amongst other things, it's history and style, and, for those reasons, it attracts millions of people each year who want to stay there and experience first hand its many charms. Paris has so many amazing places to stay, which makes choosing a single one a difficult question.

One of the best ways to start deciding is choosing which district you'd like to be in. Paris is divided into twenty districts, so to stop it from becoming daunting it's best to divide up your choices into either the right or left bank, which are the most popular areas. Next, bring it down to districts founded on the inn or hotel which suits you the best in a particular district.

The right and left banks refer to the right and left side of the Seine River which flows through central Paris roughly dividing it in half. The Seine flows westward which means when referring to the left bank one usually means the southern half of Paris and the right, the northern portion of the city.

This makes finding your chosen hotel a great deal easier. You will learn that although both banks are within the heart of Paris, both are uniquely different from one another in character and the cultural respect.

The left bank exemplifies the Bohemian lifestyle, art, and fashion. It features many historical sites, interesting architecture and is the heart of Parisian popular culture. More reasonably priced hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts can be found here.

The right bank is home to the refinement and sophistication many people imagine when they think of Paris. It also houses the famous L'Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees in the business district. It is considered very metropolitan and the neighborhoods are very affluent and beautiful with contrasting architecture from classical to very modern.
