Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort Hotels:Don't Overlook These Great Hotels

By Nancy Bobby

If you have ever driven through the Walt Disney World resort property, you are certainly familiar with some of the well-known landmarks. Cinderella's Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Spaceship Earth (the "golf ball") at Epcot, and Hollywood Studio's Tower of Terror all are readily recognizable by the millions of Disney vacationers each year. Yet there are two more Disney landmarks that you can't miss when visiting Disney World and yet they may very well be the "hidden gems" of Walt Disney World: The Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort hotels.

Owned by Starwood, the parent company of the Sheraton and Westin hotels, these two resorts are located on Disney property, and are a short walk or boat ride from Epcot and Hollywood Studios. This excellent location, and access to Disney transportation are some of the great benefits available to guests who stay at the Swan or Dolphin.

The Swan and Dolphin each have a very distinctive architectural exterior, and beautiful interiors and landscaping. Designed by award-winning architect Michael Graves, the resorts are decorated beautifully, with a fabulous shared pool, and many luxurious amenities that are on a par with the Disney deluxe properties.

A variety of dining options are also available, ranging from snack food cafes, to full-service restaurants, and everything in between. Those guests looking for options in dining will not be disappointed!

A major benefit for Swan and Dolphin guests is to be able to enjoy several Disney resort privileges. Close proximity to two of the four parks, and free use of Disney resort transportation have already been discussed. Swan and Dolphin guests also receive the opportunity to attend the Disney parks Extra Magic Hours, can have get package delivery from the theme parks to their hotel, and also receive free parking at the theme parks.

Arguably the best part of the Swan and Dolphin may very well be the Westin hotel's "Heavenly Beds". Luxurious bed furnishings include a pillow top mattress, triple sheets, down blanket and comforter, and goose down/feather pillows. After a tiring day at the theme parks, unwinding in one of the Heavenly Beds is a wonderful way to relax.

While the Swan and Dolphin are considered "deluxe" resorts, since they are not truly Disney properties, their prices are usually less than any of the comparable Disney resorts. And if you are a Florida resident, senior citizen, government employee, member of the military, nurse, or teacher, you may very well qualify for a discount!

If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World, you owe it to yourself to discover the Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin resort for your accommodations. Beautiful properties, tons of amenities, super location, Disney perks, and all at a great value. They are true gems indeed!
