By Deb Schwabe

When you go on a beach vacation, it is very important to find a destination which is more than just a beach. If you have kids to entertain, you'll want some extra activities. Why not vacation in Daytona Beach Florida, which has 23 miles of beach and plenty of activities.

Although Daytona Beach is most well known for their Independence Day weekend celebrations, they enjoy a stunning year round temperate climate, which makes it possible to visit at time. All budgets are catered for in the different accommodations available. You will also find world-class golf, shopping, beaches, spas, water-sports, angling, fine dining, and even cultural activities.

Together with hot-dogs, hamburgers, fireworks, cotton candy and saltwater taffy, Independence Day weekend activities in Daytona Beach would not be the same without NASCAR racing. At the World Center of Racing in Daytona Beach watching the Saturday night Sprint Cup series is definitely the cherry on the cake of the weekend. This international raceway sets standards for all other raceways of its kind world-wide. Experiencing NASCAR racing at Daytona Beach has to be something you do at least once in a lifetime.

As far as beach and other activities go, there are loads of free attractions to offer during the summer months. These can save you a pocketful of money, particularly if you have a bunch of kids to entertain. Free is the best possible value for money you can get, and fortunately all the best US beaches offer these activities. One of the historical traditions of Daytona Beach is Angell & Phelps Chocolate. This factory has been operation since 1925, and you can tour this facility for free.

Looking for some cultural activities? The Art League of Daytona Beach hosts exhibits of local and national artists. The "casements" is the home of the Rockefeller family, originally build by John D, himself and a great historic place to visit. Enjoy one of the tours, which are held daily 6 days a week at this cultural center and museum of Ormond Beach.

Free concerts in the Bandshell are a big deal at all US beach resort towns and cities and Daytona Beach is no different. Bring or hire your beach chair because once the concert is over at 9:45 on a Saturday, you get to experience a free fireworks display. Enjoy a series of concerts throughout the summer including, rock, country, big band, swing and jazz music.

For fun on the beach a visit to the North Peninsula State Recreation Area is a must. Entrance is free and this park features 2 miles of beautiful, pristine beaches, surf fishing, sea turtles and a 900 acre park.
