Experience the Wonders of Languedoc Roussillon

In the south of France sits the Languedoc Roussillon which is one of France's twenty six regions. This region stretches alongside the Mediterranean coast, specifically between the Provence and the Pyrenees areas. Known for its heritage, climate and landscape, the Languedoc Roussillon is a region which should be commended for is diversity and magnificence.

The departments of Pyrenees-Orientales, Lozere, Gard, Herault, Aude make up the whole of Languedoc Roussillon. Each of these departments is politically connected in the country as a single region.

The shifts in borders also show that, what used to be the province of Languedoc, was in fact extended to the west area of Toulouse, which is now part of the Midi Pyrenees region.

The Golfe du Lion is formed by the amazing scenery of Languedoc Roussillon, which curves around the Mediterranean area. The beaches and gorges of this French region is something that your eyes should feast on. The Languedoc Roussillon serves as a home to a melting pot of culture, with roughly a population of two million.

Languedoc Roussillon is quickly becoming popular with businessmen and tourists alike. As everyone knows, one of the region's most important cities, Montpelier, is currently experiencing a massive change, along with other main centres such as Nimes and Perpignan. More importantly, this prosperous region can be compared with Provence and the Cote d'Azur when it comes to holiday destinations. In addition to this, facilities at the hotels are similar to the ones which are found in the most affluent cities of France.

Motorways are also built around the different towns and cities of Languedoc Roussillon, which make it easier for tourists and residents alike to go around their favorite hotspots. In addition to this, airlines also make it easier to travel, since there are several airport routes in the major cities of Montpellier, Nmes, Perpignan and Carcassonne.

In not more than four hours, one can reach Montpellier from Paris because of their TGV trains. Barcelona will soon be assessable in about 45 minutes if you are in Perpignan, because of the continued construction of a new TGV high speed link.

The sights found in Languedoc Roussillon are not the only ones to look forward to. The people of Languedoc Roussillon are also very hospitable and accommodating. The Catalans and Cathars also feature distinctive characteristics, including the practice of the old langue d'oc language. By just visiting this wonderful region, you will be able to experience the rich heritage of France as a whole.

This region is also famous for beautiful wine and local vegetables and other products. There are various places in this region which exemplify the uniqueness of the French culture, such as the historical Cit at Carcassonne, the Nimes Roman arena, the aqueduct of Pont du Gard, the long and winding Canal du Midi. No wonder everyone who steps foot in this region finds it welcoming and attractive.
