If you love adventure and have an affinity for the ocean, then a visit to Indonesia might be for you. If this describes you, then scuba diving in Bali and exploring the open waters would probably be the perfect vacation spot for you. The water is refreshingly warm and there are great sights to see including coral reefs and exotic marine life. Whatever your diving experience is does not really matter; Indonesia offers stuff for just about anyone to do. Here is a look at some of those fun things.
Before we get into all the adventurous activities, let us first take a quick look at the area history. Indonesia is an island nation that is comprised of a shocking 17,500 + islands. It has the 4th largest national population on the planet with over 235 million residents.
Situated between Java to the west and the island of Lombok to the east, sits the isle of Bali. Its population nears three million and of all the Indonesian islands, it is number one when it comes to tourism. This is due in no small part to its unique opportunities for snorkeling and diving.
There is a little fishing village on the north-east coast of the island. It is called Tulamben. In 1942 the US Navy transport ship "The Liberty" was sunk by a Japanese submarine. Almost seventy years later, the wreck is a draw to divers from around the world. During peak season over a hundred divers take the plunge to see its remains. It is easily accessible as it lies only eighty feet from shore and rests in waters only one hundred feet deep.
Of course there is more to view than just the wreckage of the Liberty. The remains are home to plenty of different coral. Additionally, people can see ocean sunfish, also called Mola mola. For the very bold, there is the chance to come into contact with whale sharks. Do not let their name scare you; whale sharks prefer to dine on plankton and not people. So, folks can actually swim right alongside these awesome creatures.
Tulamben is only one of the good diving areas. Other places to check out include Nusa Penida, Amed, and Menjangen. Lots of marine life may be spotted here such as rays, Moray eels, hawksbill turtles, giant sunfish and parrot fish. If you are really lucky, you might catch sight of a dolphin.
There is no shortage of information on diving adventures off the coast of Bali. A quick search on the internet can yield a plethora of adventurous opportunities. Then you can plan a visit full of fun and excitement.
