By Jason Hall

Journeying to foreign countries can be quite the adventure and this is especially true if you visit a country where everybody speaks a different language. Developing your vacation plans can be very difficult in this forum and you might elect to utilize a travel agent so that you can more efficiently arrange your accommodations and air travel. Fortunately most car rental agencies that do international business have multilingual representatives who will assist you to put in place your car rental reservation without any miscommunications.

If you are traveling to an unknown country, however, you will want to make sure that you know exactly what company you are dealing with and you will preferably choose a company that is familiar to you. Although, you may know this company in your country of origin it is important to make sure that each of this companies international locations are also owned by the corporation and are not independently owned.

Independently owned locations while sometimes good can be a bit unreliable at times and when you are choosing a location based solely on their familiar name be sure that the company is backing the particular location that you will be using. It can be extremely disheartening to have a bad experience with a rental company that is independently owned.

Of course, when selecting your rental car company in an international destination be sure that you find out everything that you will need to have with you when you arrive to pick up your rental vehicle. Each country has its own rules and requires its own paperwork so you don't want to just assume that you have everything in order only to find you are unprepared to pick up your rental. It is a good idea to not only check with the company as to the paperwork they will require you to present when picking up your international rental but that you will also want to check directly with the location itself because this is the front line and they will know exactly what they will need from you when you arrive at the desk.

In many foreign countries you'll likely encounter some type of language barrier so it may be advisable to pay a couple of dollars more at an airport car rental agent instead of traveling into the city to find a better deal. Given that airports are more used to working with tourists from all over the world they'll probably be better able to communicate with you at this location. If you come across a problem it'll be best to be able to communicate your point and understand their responses.
