Metal Buildings Are Eco-Friendly And Economical

By Adrianna Noton

Metal buildings are becoming more popular as people realize how inexpensive and versatile they can be. Also, the industry is expanding because of new technology and design capabilities. Once thought of only as sheds for storage, garages, farm buildings or water-craft protection and airplane hangers, metal buildings are now being pioneered as green-movement homes.

Do it yourselfers have always enjoyed erecting steel units. While these DYI units are fine for garages and storage areas, it would be advisable to contract a professional to build units which are to be used as living areas. Large structures need good support, especially if there are several rooms which might need plumbing or heating installations and systems.

Eco-friendly steel homes are reported to be completely recyclable and inexpensive to construct. They are weather resistant and hold strong against the elements. They lend themselves to modern, open-concept styles which are increasing in popularity.

Open concept homes are also popular in the green movement. Many green movement homes do not use gas, oil, or much hydro for heat and cooling. Instead, they use more energy efficient methods. Alternatives such as underground water-tubing or natural underground thermal systems.

These types of heating/cooling systems work best in open-concept homes. Steel roofs, which are available in several attractive colors, are proving to be very functional as well - especially when looking at climate control capabilities.

Rain falling on a steel roof has a very peaceful feeling. When rain water falls off these roofs into barrels or cisterns, it is still clean and there is no toxic residue contaminating it. It can be safely used to water lawns and gardens. Sun-roofs and solar panels which serve to enhance the environmentally friendly building are easy to install.

Metal homes can be constructed relatively inexpensively in comparison to traditional methods which seem to be becoming more costly all the time. Steel frames and support systems eliminate the need for inside support systems, therefore, lending to many open concept designs. Steel structures allow for a lot of window space as well.

The exterior can also be designed attractively was well. In addition to the previously mentioned steel roofs, the exterior walls do not have to look like the steel storage buildings we have become accustomed to seeing. The popular stacked stone look is easily mimicked by steel construction. It is easy to care for and will not lose its aesthetic value over time.

In addition, because it is simply a facing on the original metal exterior walls, it has three benefits. Firstly, the overlay adds a extra dimension of temperature control. Secondly, it is easy to keep clean. Thirdly, it can simply be peeled away and replaced when a different exterior look is desired.

The concept of metal buildings is developing far beyond the traditional concept of storage places. New steel structured homes are environmentally friendly, inexpensive, comfortable to live in and can be a conversation piece for years to come.
