Finding Hotel Rooms in San Diego

By Josh Krundle

When considering San Diego hotel rooms, realize that the city and its surrounding communities offer an extremely large number of them. Billing itself as "America's Finest City, " San Diego is a jewel in Southern California that offers a wide variety of sites and attractions within its diverse geographic area. Given that, it's easy to see why the city bills itself in such a manner.

Actually, there's a lot more to San Diego then the city alone. Surrounding it in every direction -- and easily accessible via roads and highways -- are many very nice communities that host a number of extremely nice hotels. The city has a range of influence that extends south to Mexico and North to Orange County, as well as to many areas in the east and even to the west of the city.

Generally speaking, there is a difference in hotel rooms versus motel rooms, and they are a great many motels that can be found throughout San Diego and especially along its interstates and other major highways. Hotels are normally are more expensive than motels, and there are a large number of national-level hotel chains that call many parts of San Diego home.

For those who are coming to San Diego to take in the sights and indulge in a bit of luxury and maybe stay along the Pacific coast, it just may be that the Hotel Del Coronado will be just the thing. It is very luxurious, though pricey, and it is located right across the San Diego Bay in Coronado. It's also only a mile or so from the Navy SEAL training course at the amphibious base.

There are a range of very nice hotel rooms that can be found in the city's harbor area or close to Balboa Park. The park also contains the San Diego Zoo, which is world-famous for the quality of its facilities. There are also plenty of hotels near the Pacific Coast Highway and in the downtown area. The highway runs hundreds of miles up north, and a hotel near the highway can make sense.

Generally speaking, San Diego hotel rooms can also be found in great number in many of these cities and towns that ring San Diego. Two such towns that lay to the north up the interstate are Del Mar and Carlsbad. Both have spectacular shoreline and several very nice hotels, with Del Mar also being the home of the famous horse racing venue of the same name.

Outside San Diego just to the north and west are the communities of Miramar and Kearny Mesa. Miramar, at one time, hosted the Miramar Naval Air Station, once the home of the U. S. Navy's Top Gun fighter pilot combat training school, made famous in the'86 movie starring Tom Cruise. From this area, just had east over to beautiful La Jolla, a somewhat rich enclave on the coast that is part of San Diego.

It really doesn't matter where in and around the city the need for San Diego hotel rooms will be required, for it's a certainty that the very nice hotel of charm and character can be found as well as the rooms that the hotel will be offering. Some of these hotels are very pricey such as the one in Coronado while others are more of a national hotel chain style. Go online and check for availability.
