Learning The Sunshine Coast History

There are many fabulous areas in the Sunshine Coast region, that will offer you some insight on the history of the area, as well as the culture and the way of it's people. The Abbey is an internationally acclaimed museum of Art and Archaeology. Located in Caboolture, this museum houses a priceless collection. This museum has two distinct sections, one being the Western Europe Modern History section. The pieces there range from Britain's collections to Greek and Egyptian artifacts. There is a gift shop which offers many unique souvenirs to take home.

The Historical Village of Caboolture is a village which is made up of about 70 buildings. A barber shop, a teacher's cottage, a blacksmith and multiple fine lace and quilt shops are some of the interesting shops you will find here. You can also find many other interesting household items from the past such as milk cans, laundry boards, and first generation telephones. The miniature train will take you on an enjoyable ride around the village or you may enjoy a cup of tea in an old fashioned tea room.

Caboolture Warplane and Flight Heritage Museum. This is dedicated to preserving the Nations aviation history and has an extensive collection of World War II memorabilia including Engines, aircraft and photographs. This Museum is unique in that all of the aircraft here are restored to flying condition and regularly perform at aviation events. On display you can fine a Russian MiG 17, a Wirraways and a P51 Mustang among others .You can have a flight adventure of a lifetime in a Tiger Moth, Wirraways or Mustang with War Planes Down Under, flying in an open cockpit of a Tiger Moth with a flight suit, hat and gloves on. Flights last about 20 minutes.

The Landsborough Museum isd home to the largest collection of social history items on the Sunshine coast. The museum is located in the Landsborough Shire Council Chambers. The items housed here are a collection of tools and items used by early explorers and farmers as well as technological equipment all dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries.

There is a steam train which travels through the scenic Mary Valley, known as the Valley Rattler Steam Train. This tours the Mary River Valley and the surrounding farms and countryside. This steam locomotive is a fully restored 1920's steam train. You can stop for lunch along the way or visit the historic town of Gympie, or have a stay at the Railway hotel.
