Check Out The Top Beaches Of Newquay In Cornwall

By Frederick Hoymer

Yhe UK is certainly not well known for its array of beautiful beaches. Many of them are rocky and covered in pebbles and others are rough and the water cold. However, for a more sandy option and with some world class surf, look to the beaches of Newquay to suit your needs. Here are five of the top ones to consider.

The first one to look at is Watergate Bay beach. This beach is privately owned but that's not to say it can't be used. It is used for the Extreme Sports Academy and therefore any fanatics on these types of activity will be very much at home. Wind-surfing, buggy-surfing, kite-surfing and regular surfing are the top activities on offer her. When the tide goes out this beach stretches over a mile in length so there is plenty of space to have fun.

The second beach is Whipsiderry beach. This is a much smaller beach accessible only from above on the cliff and down some tricky steps. Be careful of what time to go otherwise these steps might be a little slippery. Its a lovely beach but lacks in facilities an it not really ideal for families, especially those with small children. For those who love to do a bit of cave spotting and exploring, then this is a good bet as many are exposed when the tide goes out.

Porth beach: This is one of the more accessible of the beaches down in Newquay and has a lot of good facilities such as parking, shops and little bars an food outlets. At low tide there are some great walks that you can take on and there is also a little crazy golf and putting green in a field just above the beach. For a fun family day at the beach, this is one of your safest bets.

Another privately owned beach is Lusty Glaze beach. This beach has a couple of interesting features in its focus on lifesaving courses and the very high high-wire that adrenaline junkies can whip across the beach on. Again, not one for families, but for surfers and young people looking for some fun this is a good bet.

Fistral beach: For any surfers, Fistral is the beast choice. This is the best beach for surfing in the UK and is world famous with its surf centre and numerous surf shopping outlets. All of the surfing competitions within Newquay take place here so the car parks may be closed off on these occasions to pick your day if you are just looking to lounge on the beach.

These are only some of many other beaches in the area.
