World Cup 2010 - an Exciting African Holiday for Every Spectator

By Nyaruita Gateri

As hundreds of thousands of travelers will be headed to South Africa for the world cup, a great idea would be to see more of Africa and take a break to, fro or between the action packed games to visit Kenya and other African nations. Kenya is the home of the safari and is only a four hour flight from South Africa! Not only will guests see their favourite national teams strutting their stuff but you will be able to experience the real game strutting their stuff in the Kenyan national parks and reserves.

An honour to the African continent is playing host for the first time ever, to the World Cup 2010. South Africa will be flying the African flag very high, carrying the hopes and dreams of a continent. Imagine if an African team were to make it to the finals on African soil? With a capacity of 48,000 the Nelson Mandela Bay's brand new stadium will be a spectacle to behold. Every fan will need a vuvuzela (traditional horn) to get into the true South African spirit while enjoying a great game of soccer.

A number of football greats have qualified. Countries like Japan, Korea, Australia, Netherlands and of course, hosts South Africa have all secured a place for themselves at the World Cup 2010. For many nations the nail biting continues. The million dollar question is whether President Obama will accept the FIFA president's invitation to the prestigious event. People from all corners and walks of live are bound to grace the world cup with their presence.

Africa is honoured to be hosting the World Cup, from Botswana to Mozambique, Zambia to Kenya, this will be an opportunity for Africa to put its best foot forward. There are more than 10 flights a week to and from South Africa to Kenya - a short four hour flight. There are many adventurers for the football lovers going for the World Cup 2010 tournament.

The Great Rift Valley stretches from Ethiopia to Malawi. It has beautiful lakes such as Lake Naivasha, a one hour drive from Nairobi and Lake Nakuru has beautiful pink flamingoes and thousands of pelicans. Lake Baringo is a bird watchers paradise whilst Lake Bogoria has hot springs that are a wonder to behold. Amboseli, Maasai Mara, Samburu, Tsavo are all waiting to be explored with a the widest variety of game in national parks in Africa.

Interestingly from East to West, the Equator traverses this nation and you could enjoy seeing the loos drain in clockwise and anticlockwise routines in the same country - though I am sure this is far from the equator's greatest attraction. Marvel at snow capped mountain of Mt. Kenya and fancy if you will, a climb up the second highest mountain on the African continent.

In case you just want some pampering you have several spas to choose from in the wild and on the beach. The Kenyan beaches and are amongst the world's best! The beaches cover hundreds of kilometers with white sand and warm ocean waters protected from sharks by a shelf of coral. Malindi, is home to Star Dust, once the most exciting disco in sub-saharan Africa north of the Limpopo. Lamu, is a beautiful town, a reminder of the arabic, african cultural fusion. Mombasa is where the coast in Kenya is most indulgent. The variety of activity from kenya food, kenya animals at Shaba, the kenya people all form an intoxicating cocktail. Did we mention water skiiing, kite surfing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing...

Not to be forgotten is the nations capital - Nairobi. The green city in the sun offers a trendy, vibrant and exciting lifestyle for the most discerning guests. International cuisine as well as Kenya's own savannah-fed beef await the palette of the adventurer. So with Kenya only one flight away, the opportunity to go on a safari where the safari originated is a must.

Africa is proud to be hosting the World Cup 2010. Karibuni Africa, Karibuni Kenya.
