Disney Grad Nite is a Memorable Graduation Celebration

By Julie Jones

Ever since 1961, high school graduates all over California have been attending Disney Grad Nite as a way to help them celebrate their graduations. It is a celebration that also happens in Disney World in Orlando, Florida, but Disneyland was the original. It has remained a great event for all high school seniors and their chaperons.

There are many celebrities that play on Grad Nite and give concerts. There are a lot of fun things to do during the event and a lot of live music with some surprise celebrities showing up time to time. It is amazing.

Because there are so many celebrities that perform on Grad Nite, this night is unforgettable. Many celebrities show up unannounced, so you never know who you are going to see while you are there. It is a lot of fun for the seniors.

While Grad Nite doesn't officially kick off until 11pm, they came up with Blast Off, which is in California Adventure a few hours before Disneyland opens. It normally starts at 9pm and goes until midnight. California Adventure also has some really cool things for the graduates.

There is one restaurant open where the students can redeem their food vouchers. All students will receive one voucher for California Adventure. Graduates can choose from a cheeseburger or chicken salad with french fries and drink. It is a good idea to have the students eat here first.

Grad Nite in Disneyland starts at 10:30pm with a dance floor in front of the castle and Main Street being open. The rest of the park opens at 11:30pm after the fireworks. Most attractions are open- some are actually closed due to their being less popular. This goes until 6am. No one is allowed to leave the park until 5am unless there is an emergency.

The park has fun decorations everywhere. There are even booths that are sponsored by different companies. The parade is also fun to watch. The theme of the parade is the top forty songs of that year. Most areas also have special lighting that is impressive.

With four dance floors, your graduates will have a great time dancing and listening to celebrity acts all over the park. The stage that is right in front of the castle features KIIS FM and they offer great music, strobe lights and fun images that are projected onto the front of the castle.

Each school that participates needs to have a certain number of chaperons, depending the the total students that they have attending. Disney treats chaperons with great treatment, though. There is a chaperon's headquarters where they can snack, watch TV and even get massages. The chaperons are responsible for the behavior of their students and if anything comes up with the graduates they must attend to it. They actually have a big job.

Disney Grad Nite is a great time for graduates to spend with their high school friends. It helps to create memories that will last a lifetime. Not only that but the chaperons normally have a great time, too.
