Incredible New York

By Clive Adams

For first time visitors as well as for frequent and seasoned travelers, the city is dazzling. You have seen its many attractions in countless Hollywood movies and yet the reality is both more astounding and more chaotic.

New York is a city that never rests. The buzz and activity that goes on doesn't slow down even at night. It's heartening to notice that its indomitable spirit has survived the cruel attacks of 9/11. Security may be a little more noticeable but life goes on.

New York appeals to people of every taste and interest. Its grand museums have some of the best art, both ancient and contemporary, from around the world. Theatres, galleries, parks, clubs, shops, skyscrapers, you name it, and the Big Apple has it all.

The Statue of Liberty is New York's most iconic structure and no visit to the city is complete without seeing it. Other not to be missed attractions include the Empire State Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park and Rockefeller Center. If you have the time you should pack in many more sights. Some of its museums are so cavernous that not even a full month is enough to appreciate all the exhibits.

Manhattan impresses with its towering skyscrapers, retail stores, theatres, restaurants, pubs and bars. Everything you can possibly think of is here, including the city's main attractions.

One of the best ways to explore New York, especially Manhattan, is on foot. You can feel the city's vibe as you eat a hot dog from a street vendor, watch New Yorkers on their way to work and have a pint at a charming Irish pub. You can also choose to live it up by dining at posh restaurants and attending gallery openings. You will discover that it is possible to survive on a few dollars and also that in some places even a few thousand won't go too far. What you do will colour and shape your experience of this multi-faceted city.

Every season offers something special and that's why tourists come to New York even during its hot and humid summers and cold and windy winters. There's always something going on in the city and you will never have to worry about things to do. In fact your only dilemma may be figuring out how best to fit in everything in during your holiday.

After you visit New York once, you will be back again and again...
