Isle of Man Travel Guide

By Isabella Olsen

The Isle of Man is a small island located between Great Britain and Ireland. In spite of its size, though, it offers various tourist attractions and activities, all of which serve as excellent reasons to go on Isle of Man holidays.

The Laxey Wheel

Built in 1854, the Laxey Wheel or Lady Isabella is one of two waterwheels on the Isle of Man - the other one being the Snaefell Wheel or Lady Evelyn - and is also the largest working waterwheel in existence. Because of this, it is a popular tourist attraction. It is also located next to the Laxey Woolen Mill and the Great Laxey Mine Railway.

Steam Trains

One of the things you should do during your Isle of Man holidays is to ride a steam train. You can take the Victorian steam railway from Douglas or ride one of the steam trains from Laxey on Saturdays. If you want something more modern, you can also take the Manx electric railway and catch some equally (if not more) breathtaking views.

Motorsport

The TT Races, the most famous road race in the world, are held every year on the Isle of Man, making it a great destination for motorsport lovers and thrill seekers alike. There are several other races you can catch, too, as well as bike and car rallies.

Birdwatching

The various wetlands and plantations on the Isle of Man attract birds of all species, making them great locations for birdwatching. Indeed, you can catch site of many interesting types of birds during your Isle of Man holidays, including the Black Guillemots and Hen Harriers.

Scuba Diving

When you're done touring the island attractions, take a plunge into the spectacular underwater scenery around the Isle of Man. Aside from clear waters, the sea around the island offers amazing wildlife, including a group of plankton-eating sharks.

Golf

There are nine picturesque golf courses on the Isle of Man, each with a different style and presenting a different challenge. The most popular is the Castletown Golf Links which was once included in Golf World Magazine's list of top 100 golf courses of the world. The Ramsey Golf Course is a good choice, too.

Museums

There are several unique museums worth visiting on the Isle of Man, too, such as the Manx Aviation and Military Museum and the Cregneash Village Folk Museum. You're sure to enjoy the interesting exhibits which are bound to make your Isle of Man holidays even more worthwhile.
