Making Crafts Needs Experience

By Rick Amorey

Are you just bored at home? Are you wasting your time just watching television or pressing game consoles? Don't you wish you had something better to do with your time than surf the Internet all night? Here's an idea, come on and join in the fun! Awaken the inner artist you had as a child and see if you have skills in making crafts!

It's is a false notion that crafts can only be done by talented people. Even though talent will have a big hand in it, all in all, it's the experience that matters in the long run. So grab your tools and get cracking! Find an instruction manual and see what interests you. You never know, you may even develop your skills to the point of being able to compete in craft shows!

Yes, you heard me right. Craft shows are an excellent way to strut your stuff. Once your skills are well developed, consider attending a few non-juried shows. Go to the Internet, and search for the ideal one for you. Which one is that, exactly? For starters, try out the ones that are held near where you live. That way, you save yourself from excessive gas money and having to haul your craftswork across the country.

Once you know the best places for you, it?s a good idea to call up the organizers of the event. Try to ask around and figure out how they go about organizing things. Not all craft shows are as good as they can be, you see, and the event organizers determine the success or failure of the event.

You should also look out for the particular booth that you will occupy. Make sure you have a say on where you will be placed; if you don?t, you may have a booth next to the fair trash bin or worse. And while you?re at it, ask what comes with the booth. In most cases, you get a table and a few chairs, plus a tablecloth. But there will be instances where that luxury is not provided.

Develop your portfolio by going to non-juried shows! You'll even be eligible to move up to juried show when you have enough experience, and you'll be able to show off your excellent crafting skills to everyone!
