The Seven Wonders of the World

In July 7 of 2007, which is 7/7/7 if you look in the calendar, the modern seven wonders of the world have been voted upon by the world. These modern seven wonders are now The Taj Mahal of India, Christ Redeemer of Brazil, Chichn Itz in Mexico, The Roman Colosseum in Italy, Great Wall of China, Petra of Jordan and Machu Picchu in Peru. The following is some information of on these Seven Wonders of the World.

The Taj Mahal of India is a gigantic mausoleum built under the command of Emperor Shah Jahan. This site is located in India and was built as a dedication to his wife. It's made of marble and surrounded by gardens and a great reflecting pond. The site sees millions of people a year and is one of the most recognized sites in the world.

The Christ Redeemer statue is located in Rio Brazil. This huge statue was meant to show the hospitality and welcomness of the Brazilian people. That is why the statue of Jesus is standing with his arms wide open. This work has become symbolic of Brazil and is also one of the seven wonders of the world.

The Great Wall of China is one of the biggest structures that are visible even to an astronaut in outer space. It was built by the early people of China as a protection against the marauding Mongols. The wall took years to build and cost the lives of many, many people. It's so big you can see it from space! Up until today, most part of the wall is still intact and serves a tourist attraction. The wall is very popular with people and is easily visited from Beijing.

The Petra of Jordan was the capital of the empire of Nabataean. This city of Nabataean contains great water technology that has a series of tunnels and water chambers to provide water throughout the city even if it is situated in the desert. The city was made famous by the Indiana Jones movie and has seen been a huge historic draw since then.

There are many great historical sites in the world that are worth traveling too. These place give us insight into the past and help us learn about human history. These places are also marvels of engineering. How did ancient cultures, with such primitive tools, manage to make things like Stonehenge or the Pyramids. We often can't do many of these things today. These sites listed are some of the wonders of the world are worth visiting.
