By Hamish MacLeod

During this, so called, credit crunch large numbers of people are in the process of seriously examining their lifestyle and attempting to reduce expenditure. An easy choice for some is to have a vacation in the United Kingdom the reason being that the pound has reduced in value leading to the fact that foriegn vacations for the English are more expensive than in years gone by and far cheaper for visitors coming from other countries. In the following article I introduce the seaside town of Southport, England.

Southport is a delectable town situated on the English North West coast. Tourist attractions include, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Hesketh Park, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Churchtown village, Wayfarers' Arcade and more. Lord Street is Southport's main street. All down one side of Lord Street the pavement are covered by ornate Victorian iron work and a row of lush green trees closer to the road. On the facing side of the road you will find a Victorian bandstand, small sections of gardens and flower beds with pools and fountains. At the centre of Lord Street is probably the most amazing war monuments in the United Kingdom with a centrally placed obelisk and 2 other memorials on either side which have huge columns. It is along Lord Street that you will find some of the finest architecture in Southport and it is where you will discover the enchanting Wayfarers' Arcade.

At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family just like Lord Street the park has plenty of trees. Hesketh Park also has wonderful flower beds, hidden gardens, a play park, glass house and more but most prominent is the lovely lake.

You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which has a river/lake featuring plenty of wildlife, swans and ducks plus an ornate bridge and boating and if you enjoy birds and animals the park also has a tiny zoo, just opposite the cafe and museum. Churchtown village itself is a beautiful number of old cottages, fishermen's cottages and houses the majority of which are white and small number have a thatched roof. It is vitally important that you walk around and that you are not afraid to peer around corners because there are one or two hidden areas well worth the hassle to discover.
