Crossing the Bridge for Michigan Craft Shows

By Gary Tristan

Fairs and festivals are rife with activity. Different ones have different themes, ranging from the traditional carnivals with rights to the sometimes weird medieval niche. But, whatever the case may be, there is one common denomination that makes these events similar in nature: Fairs and festivals come with craft shows.

Everyone enjoys seeing an exquisite piece every now and then, but shopping for it so that you can own a particular craft item is even better. And what better place is there to look for crafts than in the various fairs held in Michigan State? Whether you're looking for intricately carved woodcraft or an elaborate piece of embroidery to decorate your home, you can find them showcased by the talented craftspeople in these fairs.

On the other hand, you may have talent of your own and would like to show off your stuff. If you have skills at a particular craft and would like to share it, go ahead. Don't keep your talent to your friends, it's a good idea to register at craft shows so more people will be able to see and appreciate it. It just takes some looking around and finding the right show for you.

While we're on the subject of choosing the right festival, there are a few things you may want to keep in mind. One is that's it always a good idea to choose fairs and festivals that are near to you. If it's a bit of way off, say crossing the Mackinac Bridge to get there, then it may not be worth your effort, as travel expenses may offset the income you earn at the fair.

Then, it's also a good idea to research on the craft show you've chosen. Ask if it has been a success in the past years. If it takes place yearly, ask around for the show's credentials. The event planners will be happy to answer any queries you have, as a craft show that does will should be proud of their merits and will not mind helping out a would-be participant.
