Modern Travel Tips For An Old Fashioned Vacation

By Judy Miller

There is much more to traveling than simply getting on a plane. You may be excited, but remember it is important to do a little organizing first. Just as there is an endless number of wonderful destinations to choose among for your trip, there are also a lot of different ways to go about planning it. Are you ready to take them on? Following are some travel tips that can help you to get started.

If a hotel does not have any vacancies, ask about the possibility of an out-of-service room. When a room has problems that need to be fixed, the hotel will take it off of their room rotation. They are usually minor issues like painting or aesthetic problems that the hotel would prefer not be seen by guests.

Make sure you pack some candles if you are going to be visiting a hotel. Candles can make a room smell better. Also, it creates a romantic and relaxing atmosphere and could get you to fall asleep. There are many candles on the market that are small and travel sized.

When traveling with kids, make sure they all carry identification. Give your kids enough cash to call a cab or make a call in an emergency. Every parent should have current pictures of each of their children with identifying characteristics noted on back.

Don't bring a lot of valuables on any trip. The more valuables you bring with you, the more chance you have of losing one or more of them or possibly having them stolen.

If you flew to your destination and your checked baggage hasn't made it to you yet, don't go crazy. Ask for the airport's lost luggage office and file a claim. Make sure you have ID and flight documents handy. Most of the time your luggage will be found, and you can continue with your trip as planned.

Exchanging currency will be very costly if you do it abroad. This is not the easiest way to get foreign money. The easier method is getting your currency from an ATM. These usually offer better exchange rates and are much less expensive than an exchange.

If you will be flying leave the gift wrap home. Due to recent changes in the security policies of airports it is very likely that a wrapped present will be opened to investigate its contents. Instead, pack wrapping paper in your suitcase, or purchase it when you arrive.

If you are planning on traveling, it is important that you decide where you are interested in traveling and what you are interested in doing so you can pack accordingly. Packing smart makes your trip more fun overall.
