Great Advice For Gently Easing Travel Worries

By Rebecca Taylor

Traveling is a bigger deal than just going somewhere you haven't been before. Traveling should always remain fun and exiting. The variety of places to travel and the resources available for planning your trip is staggering. Are you ready to start your adventure? Regardless of your answer, here are some tips to help you.

When embarking on a cruise, find a hotel nearby that has free parking, and spend the night before the departure. Always ask the hotel staff for the policies and pricing on parking at the hotel and whether deals are available.

You should put an alternate pair of glasses in your luggage when you travel. If those items are accidentally broken or lost, at least you will have a backup. It is important to keep the extra glasses out of your carry on bag or your purse. These bags could easily be stolen and you would be left without a spare pair of glasses.

Neatly roll your clothes rather than folding them when you are packing for a trip. This little tip saves you lots of room in your luggage. When you get to where you are going, unroll and fold them if you like. You will be surprised at how much of a difference this small change can make in your amount of luggage.

When traveling by air, wear lightweight, comfortable shoes that can be easily slipped on and off. Security staff at checkpoints will ask you to remove them. Comfort over style is paramount when traveling. When you are in the airport or on the airplane, you will sit more than you will walk, so having good arch supports is not the most important thing. Wearing sandals like flip flops or Crocs is a great way to stay comfortable on your flight.

When traveling with a pet, do your homework before leaving home regarding hotel's pet policies and any extra costs that may apply. You should call different hotels and find out more about accommodations for your pets.

When making long road trips, rotate drivers as often as possible. Don't drive until the only other option is to sleep, as this will leave the driver the only awake person in the vehicle. You should switch drivers to avoid getting exhausted. Take turns driving, swapping the task every couple of hours or so. That way neither driver will run the risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

Contact lenses should be in a case when you going on a trip. These items are great for carrying gels and lotions if you only need a small amount of the product.

You should have a map of the area in which you are camping or hiking, carry them along. A hand-held, portable GPS or a compass is a must to have on you when you are out and about as they are very useful if you get disorientated and lose your bearings.

As much as it would be fun to just get on a plane and go, traveling is much more complicated than that. You will need to do some serious advance planning in order to derive maximum enjoyment. We've provided you with some basic advice here that can help with those planning efforts.
