Sun Country Airlines Is A Tale of Courage And Success

By Jacobi Malavo

Sun Country Airlines was created over 30 years ago by highly experienced aviation employees from Braniff Airlines. It was from that seemingly dark hour that they rose to the occasion by developing a regional carrier airline. They hung on as long as they could until the insanity of September 11th took over, and that forced them under a few months later. Fortunately, a few visionary investors provided the needed funds to give Sun Country Airlines another chance. That is what this company has demonstrated time and again in the face of harsh economic times.

Business life was fairly typical for Sun Country Airlines because they rode the wild economic ride that all airlines must endure. The air carrier became a full-fledged scheduled airline in June of 1999. Unfortunately that was a very difficult time for all airlines, and then to make matters worse they were embroiled in price wars with each other. It did not take long for them to lose 60 million dollars by the year 2000.

The governments grounding of all flights after September 11th 2001 sealed the fate of the airline. They did finally bring everything to a close by the end of 2001.

Then from Lansing it will follow onto Washington National. This is all very recent news at the time of this writing, so the stops have not actually been put into service, yet. Plus this will eventually turn into daily flights from Lansing to Washington.

About one year ago, in December of 2009, Sun Country Airlines treated a group of 80 children in ages ranging from 5 -12 to an imaginary flight to the North Pole. So it is no surprise they named it: A Flight To The North Pole. Local chapters of United Way - Big Brothers and Big Sisters were also involved in this event. The goal was to provide an incredible Christmas event for a group of special children. The plane taxied up and down the runway for about half an hour, and the Sun Country employees treated the kids to a big story about flying to the North Pole. The fact that the latest round of difficulties for Sun Country Airlines has been resolved with creditors and the courts attests to the optimism felt for this airline's success. Thanks to the many years of experience in the industry, their management and employees will no doubt turn things around quickly. The reason they know what action to pursue is a result of their vast aviation experience. We all know that the global economic state was created by external factors totally separate from how they ran their operations. However, Sun Country Airlines has already proven their ability to bounce back.
