The French and the tourists from the other nearby countries in Europe appreciate camping in France, the wonderful country which boasts of thousands of camping spots uniformly distributed throughout the country. Therefore you would find a camping ground wherever you travel round in France. Travellers use the tent or choose the caravan to stay.

In case you do not find any camping site within reach of your visit, you need not worry for many hostels in France allow you to lay tents in their back spaces. Since these camping sites are found on the banks of rivers and lakes and even the ocean it gives a sufficient scope for you to revel in enjoying the panoramic beauty around you.

Camping sites are of course not seen anywhere near places of historic interest in France and hence it will be good if you can make your own arrangements for travelling between the camping site and the visiting place.

In France during winter nearly all the camping grounds are closed and some of them are kept open only during summer to lodge travellers who throng to France during summer thereby filling these camping sites to capacity.

Annual vacation is celebrated by the French families in summer thanks to the long school vacation in that period in France.

That is why if you get to a camping site late in the day during summer you may not be accommodated there but you will be somehow accommodated there by the staff if you travelled on foot from a destination.

Camping grounds in France give different quotations for the travellers depending upon the amenities they offer. These camping sites are also rated between 2 and 4 stars as according to the equipments they provide.

However, caravans are billed in addition for using electricity. Many camping grounds in France have fixed price deals for up to three people, while children under the age of 12 are heavily discounted.

Unlicensed camping, called camping sauvage in French, is unlawful and could get you in trouble. However, a lot of people still do it. Provided you only pitch camp for one night, take down the tent in the day, don't make much noise and don't light a camp fire, you'll in all likelihood get away with illegal camping in France.
