By Bernadette Mendoza

An enduring theme in art and poetry is the majesty of nature and what it can create. People travel all over the world to witness natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef and the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. This is also a reason that National Parks exist; so that people can experience beauty in a natural and undisturbed way. One of the most gorgeous sights on Earth can be found in Lake Tahoe. This crystal clear body of water has awed people, including Mark Twain who said it had no equal, for centuries. The people who populate this area understand how special it is and cabins Lake Tahoe can extend that luck, for a little while, to you.

There are a number of areas you can choose from to settle in for a season, but some are more popular than others. This is due to the activities you can do and, for many people, South Lake is the destination of choice. It straddles the line between California and Nevada.

Prices vary on how close you are to the beach, but there are a number of beaches populating the lake that make spending extra to be close, not a smart choice for limited budgets. During the summers, Sand Harbor is the go-to beach to mingle with tourists from all over the world, as well as locals. Many people discover that the water is quite cold and sun bathing quickly takes over for getting into the water. The renowned Tahoe Shakespeare festival runs plays throughout the summer on a stage that settles on the water for an experience like no other.

The North Shore is a great option for those who are more activity oriented. Beaches in Tahoe City, which is on the California side, offer jet ski, kayak, and paddle boarding rentals. For those who are not ready for the cold waters that are the result of thick snowfall, you can get an accompanying wet suit.

Also, in the North you're driving distance from Squaw Valley. Home to the Olympics once upon a time, you can participate in world class skiing or take the gondola high up to base camp and swim in the summer and even ice skate year round.

A further drive takes you to Truckee, a small town with a bustling nightlife music and food scene. You're less than an hour from Reno if you want to get in a little city life.
