Why You Should Reserve Your Next Vacation In Denmark

By Erik Simonsen

Whatever the type of vacation you prefer, the chances are high that Denmark will be able to offer just what you're after. From the awe inspiring rugged castles thrusting their way skywards from the ancient lands, to modern, thriving cities, Denmark offers amazing holiday experiences. The country's main peninsula region of Jutland is Europe's only hold on this largely independent country. Step away from Jutland, however, and you discover the many scores of islands that comprise Denmark itself. If you're looking for escape - you'll be delighted to learn that a huge number of these islands are completely uninhabited. Thus, the Danish geography means that wherever you choose to spend your holidays in Denmark, you will always be close to the sea.

It's really no surprise, then, that so many people who come to Denmark do so specifically because of the beach opportunities, and choose to rent one of the many holiday properties which line the coast. At the same time, you will have easy access to amusement parks, water parks, zoological gardens, museums, and a large number of other attractions, situated inland. Whichever area of the country you decide to stay, there is certain to be a wealth of things to do.

If good things come in small packages, then Denmark's a rich jewel indeed - a small, but richly compact country with a huge amount to explore. As the distances are relatively short, you will experience how quickly the landscape changes, as you drive though the country. Inland you can explore thick forests or magnificent rivers which run down through sandy dunes and to the rugged coastline. If you choose to holiday in Denmark, then first you should choose the ideal landscape and scenery - for it'll be here waiting for you, once you decide where to stay.

Of all of Denmark's islands, the biggest is Zealand - the original, not the 'new' one! The capital, Copenhagen, is located on the eastern part of Zealand, not far from Sweden. If you prefer spending time in the big city, thriving on shopping experiences, galleries, museums and entertainment, then Copenhagen is a must. A wide variety of shops, attractions, theatres, cafs etc make it easy to spend an entire holiday in Denmark here. Remember to bring your camera with you as well, and meet our resident mermaid! Denmark has been a constitutional democracy since 1849 but until that time, Danish kings ruled the country (the borders of which has varied considerably) from Copenhagen.

It is this royal heritage which is the reason why the whole area around the city boasts many outstanding castles. If visiting Copenhagen, be sure to make time to visit the splendid Amalienborg Palace, which is where the current Queen lives today. The Danish crown jewels are exhibited at the nearby Rosenborg Palace, which is definitely also worth a visit during your holidays in Copenhagen.

Lapped by the waters of the Baltic is the dramatic island of Bornholm, quite distinctly different from many other landscapes you will see nearby. The terrain here contrasts dramatically with that seen throughout the rest of Denmark. Nowhere else in Denmark will you witness such immense cliffs or boulder-strewn stretches of wild, breathtaking coast. This is not to suggest that Bornholm's coastline is rocky and wild - because a great number of outstanding beaches are to be found around the south of the island. Bornholm's long stood as one of Denmark's more popular locations, and for beach vacations and idyllic landscapes, this is an ideal place to stay. Regardless of where you go on holidays in Denmark, you can look forward to having a great time.
