Romantic Getaways in Europe

By Isabella Olsen

What is the most important ingredient for an unforgettable romantic vacation? Out-of-the-way accommodations? Excellent food? Spectacular scenery? Fun couple activities? If you answered yes to one or all of these, then you might want to consider heading to Europe for European romantic getaways. After all, Europe is home to some of the most romantic places in the world.

Most Romantic City - Prague

The city of Prague, which is the capital of the Czech Republic, is considered one of the most romantic places in the world, and is therefore, a top honeymoon destination. During the day, you can visit many amazing attractions, such as Prague Castle and the St. Nicolas Cathedral. At night, you can enjoy a quiet stroll on winding cobblestone streets lit by old-fashioned street lamps, snuggle in a horse-drawn carriage or take a rowboat down the Vltava River while soaking up the rich, romantic atmosphere.

There are many other romantic cities in Europe, such as Bruges in Belgium, Tallinn in Estonia, Florence and Rome in Italy, and Paris in France. These cities all offer many magnificent attractions that provide the perfect setting for European romantic getaways, whether by day or night.

The Hotel de la Cite, Carcassonne

There are many romantic hotels in Europe but if you really want to be treated like royalty or get a fairy tale experience, staying at the Hotel de la Cite is a fantastic idea. Located in Carcassonne, France, the Hotel de la Cite is actually a well-preserved castle located in a medieval citadel, which means you'll get to enjoy spectacular views while going up and down spiral staircases and strolling through formal gardens. The individually furnished hotel rooms and suites are equipped with the latest amenities, though, including Wi-Fi access, satellite TV, a video recorder and even a laptop computer available upon request.

Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons, Oxfordshire

For a gastronomic treat in a truly romantic setting, let your European romantic getaways take you to the Le Manoir restaurant. Although tucked away in the village of Oxfordshire in southeast England, the Le Manoir is well-known throughout the world for its excellent cuisine designed by master chef Raymond Blanc. In fact, it has received two Michelin stars - a recognition reserved only for restaurants that offer great food, service and ambience.

Most Romantic Beach - Papa Cove

Europe also has many wonderful beaches and coves for those who love soaking up the sun and the sand, such as the Papa Cove on the eastern shore of the Ios island in Greece. This cove offers warm golden sands, calm crystal waters that are perfect for swimming and most importantly, walls of rock that provide a sanctuary for lovers, shielding them from the noise and the crowds of nearby beaches.

Skiing at St. Moritz

Ski resorts can also be great destinations for European romantic getaways, particularly the St. Moritz ski resort in Switzerland. Aside from being one of the best ski resorts in the world for its great slopes, St. Moritz also offers plenty of restaurants, shops and hotels - all with panoramic views of the unparalleled Engadine countryside.

These are just some of the most romantic places in Europe, which are great destinations or stops for European romantic getaways. While all these are exceptional settings for dates and honeymoons, though, keep in mind that the most important ingredient for a romantic vacation is a harmonious couple and as long as you and your partner are in love, you can make any place and any moment romantic, no matter where or when it may be.
