Crafted Emotions in Georgia Craft Shows

By Seamus Willingham

Everyone has talent; that much is certain. Some people are good with particular sports, some are adept in the kitchen, and a select have hobbies that most people haven't even heard of. These hobbies keep each of us different. It is one of the traits that humans have that separates us from the other species.

Of all these hobbies, however, the art of crafts making is perhaps the most rewarding of them all. This is due to the fact that the hobby produces something physical and enduring. Unlike food that gets consumed, or sports that are only kept in the memory of the fans, the crafts that you make will last long after you are gone.

So, it will be helpful for you if your crafts are imbibed with a bit of your own personality. This should come as second nature to most artists and artisans, but there are some who have a hard time with this. Try as they might, the crafts they make come out lifeless and dull. These individuals are simply trying a bit too hard, I'm sure. Crafted artworks should mirror the soul, and thus, the crafts person should not try to do something she doesn't really feel like making. Make something you want to do, and don't jump on the bandwagon and follow a fad or trend you've only seen.

Crafting is a satisfying hobby. Once you have finished a piece, stand back and reflect; your emotions at the time you crafted this will be apparent. I prefer to do my crafted items at a time when I am in deep thought and in a contemplative state of mind. I find it adds a certain "depth" to my final piece. Something abstract and intangible in nature. People call it "character", others call it "soul". But it's that special something that draws people in.

Likewise, some people like to do their crafts when their moods are at a different end of the spectrum. They wait until they are angry or depressed and then they craft away. Their final pieces take on a "wilder" or "gloomier" feel to it. Which works for some people, as well. This sort of style fits in with all sorts of decorating disciplines. By having a wide variety of media that caters to the different aspects, different personalities and different moods of people, you are opening yourself to a market of a whole new level.
