Sea World the Real Down Under

By Coraline Kennedy

The oldest theme park on the Gold Coast is Sea World. This park was originally established in 1958 at the Ski Gardens of Surfers Paradise. It moved to Sea World Drive in 1971. This is a great park offering many opportunities to discover many species of marine life. The Sesame Street Beach provides visits with Elmo along with many other attractions. Australia's only Polar bears are housed at Sea World and you can view them up close at the Polar Bear Shores exhibit. This exhibit is a very close replica of the natural Arctic summer. It includes wind machines, misting and fogging, rain simulators, creeks and waterfalls and natural vegetation. There is an underground section to climb in and view the polar bears under water and watch as they show off.

Another exhibit is Dolphin Cove. This environmentally friendly lagoon offers the opportunity to discover dolphins with their amazing shows or watching them interact naturally among themselves. You can also experience swimming with the dolphins or dolphin training in Dolphin Cove. Shark bay is the largest man made lagoon in the world which houses sharks and some of the most dangerous creatures in the world. There are organized dive trips here for the truly brave at heart.

Dugong Discovery takes you on an amazing journey into the world of the Dugong " a beautiful marine creature who is facing extinction. There is Sea Worlds own resident Dugong called Pig in an Oceanarium for you to meet plus many interactive elements to enjoy.

The 4D adventure known as planet SOS gives children a little insight on environmental issues with it's animated heroes. The multiple shows at Sea World offer a great variety of entertainment. Some of these shows include the Ski Show, and Water Ski Wipeout.

The great location makes Sea World a family favorite among Cold Coast visitors. Take the Gold Coast Highway and follow the signs, or cruise in on one of the many bus lines from Brisbane, Surfers, or even the Sunshine Coast.
