It's A Fun Creamy day

By Mara Hernandez-Capili

Cheese, ice creams, milk and butter are the common things that pop out our mind when we hear the word dairy. Dairy festival is held annually in Holmes Water Park, Mississippi. It is the biggest one day event in the country. It is always held 1st Saturday of June. The festival is a gathering of dairymen. Dairymen are the people responsible for dairy production. The dairy festival is a token of gratitude to the community for their continuous support to dairy products.

The event offers a lot of must see, First is the Dairy festival queen, it is a pageant for fun, participants are asked questions related to dairy. Second is the Baby contest, where the cutest baby in their cutest cow costumes win. Third is the Mooing contest, which's got the longest moo. Lastly is the turtle race, the liveliest race ever and it's only seen here at the dairy festival. Over all the festival is really worth attending.

Activities are non-stop. Everyone gets their share of actions, churches and civic groups to business sectors. There's plenty of thing to do like arts and crafts, food tasting and indulgence. Butter churning is also held during the event, sack races and many other fun packed family activities.

Local talents got the chance to show their talents. As live music, goes on throughout the day. In the evening gospel songs and singing slows down the event nearing the end of the festival. Gospel singing serves as the conclusion of the festival.

Dairy Festival is truly cannot be missed festivity, the year would not be complete without this. And this festival will not be complete without the free milk and ice creams that serves as compliments of Walthall County dairy farmers. Finally, the most awaited fireworks display symbolized the end of the festival. Everyone goes home with a smile saying cheese to a wonderful time.
