For people that take a holiday or vacation to some nearby romantic or outdoor type location, the number one destination is many times the beach area. But there are some who like to conquer the highest mountain or cross the hottest desert or tame the wildest beast, and for this, there is only one place that will satisfy those wants. That place is Africa. Many will actually spend their holidays in Kenya, sooner or later.
East Africa is not the most traveled-to place by any means and most of the people who travel to Kenya have a purpose for going there. To travel there from almost anywhere is a very expensive trip, but most people who travel there have just one thing on their minds. The big game hunters from around the world want to bag the biggest and best animal they will be allowed to shoot. On the other hand there are those who love the animals and appreciate their worth, and these are the hunters that hunt with the dreaded camera. They love to get just the right shot so they can show all back home the wonderful beauty of Africa.
Africa is a very large country and unless you have months to spend there, you will not likely see it all in one trip. Take the plunge and bite off a bit to see this time and make plans for another trip back in the future.
Your stay could include a few nights in a treetop hotel that is built, as the name implies, in the tops of the trees, over a favorite animal watering hole. You will have to arise early if you wish to catch a glimpse of some of those creatures, as they may only be there in the early morning hours. Ever watchful, the prey will be wary of the hunters and quite skittish. It could be that you may witness a kill. It can happen.
While on safari, keep an eye out for those large game animals, like the elephant and rhino. There used to be a problem with poachers killing these majestic creatures for just their ivory and horn. This still happens but not as much as in the past. As far as rhinos, you may be lucky enough to see one of the white ones. They are rather rare but can be found.
Many birds call this area their home, at least for a great part of the year. The shallow lakes found here hold millions of birds of all kinds. Flamingo are one the prettiest you will see. The pink of their feathers make them quite outstanding. Imagine a sea of pink.
Large creatures, such as the water loving and living hippopotamus and horned rhinoceros, roam the prairies and river banks in groups. Both can be quite cantankerous so be aware of where they are when you are observing them. Rhinos have been known to overturn trucks in their mad dashes of rage. They are very dangerous. If you are cruising in the river, that is where you would be likely to come across the hippo. They stay much of the time beneath the surface, feeding on succulent growth on the river bottom. If you get too close they might upset your boat.
If any of this has piqued your interest, take a little time to consider Holidays in Kenya. There are many more areas of that country to see. You might go back as many times as it takes to cover it all, eventually.
