Family Road Trips - 5 Things to Remember

By Yolanda Reyes

If you're planning for a family vacation or weekend getaway, take the time to plan for your road trip. Sure, you can use websites as your map to your destination, but often times the basics on how to enjoy a road trip is overlooked.

Music/DVDS - check

With music, not only can you pass the time but you also realize you actually have a shot to win on American Idol. If you have kids and wish to keep them occupied, then put on some classical CD or music from a kid's TV show. You can also bring movies for the kids to enjoy if your vehicle has a DVD player. Music can not only keep your kids occupied, it can also help pass the time or inspire the family for a sing-a-long.

Remember to Bring the snacks

It's important to bring snacks for everyone to munch on. Bringing snacks may be simple but it's still easily forgotten, because usually people are in a hurry to leave. If you do remembered to bring snacks, like yogurt or fruit cups, don't forget to bring plastic spoons as well. Also, don't forget to bring paper towels, napkins, and cleaning wipes. You know how it is with kids, sometimes things just get messy especially in a moving vehicle.

Entertainment for the kids - check

To avoid boredom and also keep your kids occupied, bring books, toys, and games. You can also try verbal games like "I spy with my eye" to help pass the time and get your family involved. Traveling with kids doesn't have to be distracting as long as they're occupied with other activities.

Don't forget the emergency supplies

Emergency supplies are also important, so consider bringing things like blankets and first aid kits. Bring these basic supplies with you because you never know when you'll be stuck in traffic or when an emergency will strike.

Remember to check your vehicle

Getting your vehicle tuned up is important before you hit the road. Make sure your fluids are up the proper levels and also consider getting an oil change. You don't want to have car trouble in an unfamiliar territory, do you?

If you want your road trip and vacation to be successful, follow these suggestions so that you'll really enjoy your vacation with your family.
