Walking is the True Path to Losing Weight

By Leanne Williams

So, you've resolved it's about time you get started losing a little weight, and that exercising frequently would be a good place to begin. But you probably haven't exercised in a long while, so you don't know where to begin. It could even be a little scary, commitment wise. Luckily, it's not that confusing or hard to do - simply begin walking. You must make walking a huge element of your exercise plan.

You'll be surprised how simple it is to squeeze walking into your workout plan. Are you a dog owner? Take your pet for a pleasant, long walk. Anything less than 10 minutes doesn't count. It may only have been ten minutes, but in a week that equals to 70 minutes, which is quite a lot of walking. If you and your dog go walking two times a day then that number is multiplied by two. One thing you might want to try is walking part of the way to work; you can make this as long as you want by just stopping short of your workplace. You can try this no matter how far you live from your office. If you're ofruntate enough to have only a thirty-minute or so walk to your office, that'll be an extra hour of walking each day. Then again, if you ride a bus to work, just use a bus stop farther away than the one you ordinarily use. Adding more walking into your daily routine is a breeze.

Walking is one of the simplest and best things you can do to become healthier. The reason walking is so wonderful for your heart and at helping you lose weight is that it is the best aerobic workout. You don't have to be anxious about overworking your joints or muscles like when running, since you can go as slowly as you must. I have a brother who's one of those folks who consumes a ton of junk and fast food but never puts on weight. How does he do it? He claims he's never really thought about it, but perhaps it's because he walks quite a bit every day. At least it now makes sense. Since, for a lot of us, nothing is simpler than walking, we have no reason not to.

Once you establish walking as a part of your daily routine, it will become more painless to stay with it, and as a bonus you'll begin to notice you're losing weight, too. By walking you'll also feel better and you won't be bored by it as it's not wearing at all, which will make you feel more motivated. As you walk more and see changes, you'll want to do more or up the intensity of your walks. This is fantastic; whenever you're ready. Who knows? Maybe you'll love walking so much that you decide to give jogging a try. From there, you can advance to more vigorous workouts.

What else do you need to know? Are you ready to begin walking? No matter how hectic your day is, you can certainly find 10 minutes here and there for a quick walk. Another possibility is to join a gym and use their treadmills for a half hour or so every day.
