Value Your Vacation Time

By Angela Benedict

Knowing the values of taking a vacation can help you plan it and spend it well. It is not enough to tender a request at work, pack up your bags and head to the airport or drive out of town but knowing just what this time alone should bring for you. There is a huge difference between going on a vacation and taking a tour of your choice location and understanding this difference will determine what this set out time will fetch.

How do you tell if your expedition is a tour or a vacation? The state of your mind when you are done! Vacations are for relaxing and rejuvenating the mind; tours are for exploring new places without necessarily relaxing the mind. You can be on tour and still have your mind at work while for vacations; your mind is focused on getting sufficient rest. What matters the most is what you body requires not what you are coaxed or mandated to do.

It is vital for one to plan his vacation prior to it. If the location is one never been to before then more work is required in planning. One must take his time in acquiring the right gadgets and equipments for the trip. Getting a map to look at the location would be a good idea though it doesn't mean a guide becomes unnecessary in unfamiliar terrains. You don't want to spend your vacation like the passengers in the series movie LOST.

It is not strange for one's employers to reluctantly grant them a vacation. However yours came doesn't matter; what matters is that it is here now and you must make it a worthwhile vacation. If your employers have accepted your grant for a vacation then make it one. You must not do any gruelling duty or work related assignment during your stay. This period is yours and your body needs you to give it the rest it desires not some extra work.

Sometimes your blunders can turn your vacation into a tour; how? Through inadequate preparation and information! Before you set out on a vacation, ensure you got all the right gadgets and equipment you need. Set out first to plan for your stay. Find out all you should about the area. A friend spent the first 48 hours of his vacation in a county jail because he broke the traffic laws in the city and had a good tour of the county jail!

Your vacation is a very special time of your work year and you deserve all the rest and fun this period should bring. Extra baggage of work and stress should be avoided. This period is exclusively yours and your agenda should be: rest, fun, rest. Anything cumbersome should not be entertained and all activities should be directed towards your agenda. If on the other hand you just want to have a tour then know it is not the same as a vacation.
