Explore Breathtaking Copper Canyon

By James Fisher

To make your visit smooth though, it is advisable to liaise with a tour company, who can either pick you from Texas or meet you in the Copper Canyon, whichever you prefer. They will make all the travel arrangements for you so you can enjoy a stress free journey. And what better way to really enjoy a vacation than to ensure that it's a stress free journey.

The Falls is located south Creel about 22kms away, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Canyon. It has a drop of about 30m and joins the river, also in the Copper Canyon. You can also see the majestic Balancing Rocks. Pena del Gigante is the highest rock in the country, and has the highest vertical wall in Mexico. It meets the river at its base from a height of 2,290 feet. Flying Stone is the 11th highest waterfall in the world and the highest in Mexico, at 2,310 feet.

You can access the Copper Canyon by bus from Texas. You will require a tourist card to go to Copper Canyon, as it is beyond the border zone. Getting a tourist card is easy, and you can organize for one when doing your clearing at the Mexican embassy. You can also get the card from the migration office in Mexico.

You can also enjoy a parking experience complete with a tent and fire at any of the Camping, RV or Trailer Parks spread across the rail road. Your tour guide can organize for a camping experience at Los Mochis or Creel. RV camp sites are totally luxurious, with a club house, satellite, showers, bar, restaurant and satellite. If you are on a tight budget, a hostel is your best choice of accommodation. Choose between share and private rooms, where you enjoy clean restrooms and luxurious amenities, but at a cheaper cost.

It is also one of the oldest missions in the Canyon, and most of the original architecture remains intact. The Escultura de Cristo Rey in Creel where an 8m white sculpture stands is another fantastic site with a panoramic view of the city below. There are numerous other activities you can safely enjoy here, including mountain climbing, hiking, cycling and swimming.
