A Bridge With A Story Of It's Own

By Kathy Smith

A trip to Brisbane is rewarding all year round and if you are looking for a unique adventure on your trip to Brisbane , then consider going on the adventure climb at Story Bridge . An incredible adventure geared towards all fitness levels and ages over 10 years old.

It was opened in July 1940 and the design is based heavily on that of the Jacque Cartier Bridge in Montreal. The Story Bridge features prominently in the annual River Fire display and is illuminated at night. It also operates as a tourist and recreational destination and it is possible to go on guided walks up to the top of the bridge.

The Story Bridge Adventure Climb is a two and a half hour guided tour that will teach you not only the history of the bridge itself but will help you identify all the different landmarks in and around Brisbane . Wear your walking shoes and enjoy the view from this very scenic lookout. This attraction is open all week and includes tours at different times of the day, each with its own spectacular view of the region.

The top of Story Bridge has also become a very popular place to propose. Since the opening of the tours in 2005 there have been an average of 120 couples signing up each each for Valentines Day climbs, over 500 proposals and 2 wedding ceremonies.

After you climb the bridge a great place to relax and grab a meal is in the Story Bridge hotel. This Hotel opened in the late 1800's and is a local favourite. Story Bridge Hotel is responsible for the launch of the National Festive of Beers and the internally famous Australian Cockroach Races. The hotel also has a bar located in what used to be a WWII bomb shelter and an upper level, velvet walled martini bar. If you are looking for something outdoors you can always go to Captain Burke Park, located under the Bridge, which is a great place for picnics or a Barbecue.
