Have Yourself Electronic Deer Whistles For Deer Prevention On The Highway

By Kai Smith

Our friend bumped a deer on the road while he was riding his bike - or somehow the deer bumped into him from the sidelines, only months have gone by. Luckily, he only suffered a minor injury to his foot. He goes on road trips almost every weekend, therefore he made a decision to put an electronic deer whistle repeller on his bike. He says at present, whenever he's on the road on his bike and alarms the deer with his whistle, the deer just stays still instead of going across the road. He was very fortunate and now, he is taking every safety measure to prevent the accident from happening again. The deer are on the move at this period of the year along with the coming climate changes.

Why do vehicles encounter deer so many times? Deer are drawn at the edge of the roads because of the tall lawn and plant life. Often when they move about, the roads are their common pathways. It is inherent in them when they feel a threat, they run in crisscross pattern. At nighttime also, headlights from vehicles render the deer temporary blindness thus the latter would panic and run at any direction.Dusk, several hours into the night and dawn are prime feeding times, so it is advantageous to be more watchful during these times of day.

Another fact for you to be aware of about deer ways and precautions to avoid them, regardless of the kind of vehicle you use is to be extremely careful on two lane or rural roads. Our place is in the country. Every time we go out our house, we come across a deer or two and occasionally a herd. Yards that are next to roads are also common for herds to scour. Normally when you see a deer, there are still many others out there, so drive slowly and be alert for deer crossings. One objective of having deer crossing signs is to inform motor vehicle drivers that at that particular area, deer often cross it. At night, when we travel, we guard ourselves from headlights directly hitting the eyes. The term "caught like a deer in the headlights" came about when a deer froze from temporary blindness caused by the vehicle's flashing lights. When you encounter this, turn your lights off and then on again.

The helmet is the most protective gear you can use while riding a motorcycle, as recommended by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The helmet should include a face shield to protect against rocks and insects. A wind protector or sunglass is not enough to give you security on your ride. Be certain that the face shield is tightly attached to your helmet and scratch free because scratches can refract light, blurring out your vision. Also use a tinted shield when riding during the day and a clear shield when riding at night. Exhaust pipes can burn you and flying road debris can hurt you when riding a bike, so to stop it from happening, wear something bulky over the ankle boots. A friend of ours had his best boots on and the physician told him that without it, the injury he sustained would have been worse.Wear boots that give you a good grip on the foot pegs.

To protect your hands from sun, wind, blisters, cold and prevent bruises, cuts and abrasions in a crash use a good pair of heavy gloves.Wear gear that covers the body such as leather or abrasion resistant fabric to reduce or prevent injury if you crash. If your car has deer horns, your motorbike - you are always out in the open on it - must have it as well because you need the extra security. Take pleasure in driving your bike without the anxiety of bumping into a deer.
